Keep the caps clean and close the tubes. Keep them away from heat. Otherwise, the binder and pigments will separate. When you open the paint tubes to use, plenty of linseed oil will come out.

The color wheel helps you understand how to get new colors by mixing the primary colors. Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colors. When you combine red and yellow, you get orange.

The head should be about a centimeter away, or if you draw differently, make the eyes lower and erase the top of the head and draw bangs or hairstyles.

Tips from our Readers

  • Practice over and over again. For beginners, use colored pencils first, then watercolor. Copic markers work well for the color blend, but they can get really expensive.
  • Do any pencil drawing or sketching really lightly at first so you can erase it easily without any marks showing and without messing up the paper.
  • Remember that the two eyes will look more realistic if they are identical but not exactly identical!

To draw eyes, start by drawing two almond shapes with the inside corners tapering down. Then, draw a large circle inside each of the almond shapes, leaving some space between the bottom of the circles and the bottom of the shapes. Next, draw an arc near each inside corner for the tear ducts and a line that starts at the base of each tear duct and runs along the lower eyelid. Finally, draw a smaller circle inside each of the circles you drew earlier to make the pupils. To learn how to draw anime eyes, scroll down!
