Common Name: Bright Wooly Blue Spires

Description:

Pilosocereus pachycladus, commonly known as Bright Wooly Blue Spires. Semi-slender stems (to about 3 inches thick) are glow-in-the-dark light blue, probably one of the most unimaginable colors that you could expect of a plant! The stems are a nice vertical accent by shape alone, but when you kick in the color it’s like waving blue light wands in the garden! And if that weren’t enough, the almost spineless margins are almost covered with little wooly masses of downy fuzz. This has got to be one of my all time favorites of the cactus family! Growth is reasonably fast at about a foot a year. Full sun; appreciates more frequent waterings and fertilizer during the warm growing season, but is equally as happy on the coast as it is in hot, inland deserts where hard frosts are not a threat.

  • Type: Cactus
  • Exposure: Full Sun
  • Hardy To: 25° F
