THE Wear Sunscreen song was originally an essay written by Mary Schmich, and published in 1997 in the Chicago Tribune.
It gives life advice, and quickly went viral, before it was then turned into a spoken word song by Baz Luhrmann.
When was it released as a song?
Baz Luhrmann released the song version of Wear Sunscreen on his 1998 album Something For Everybody, and it was released as a single in 1999.
It hit number one in the UK and Ireland, due to a media campaign by Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles.
The album version was 7:10 minutes which features a chorus, and the single version was 5:05 for radio.
It also features in Now That's What I Call Music! 2, in 1999.
In August 2008, the song entered the UK singles chart again, reaching number 72.
