Even though this song was released in June 2003, 13 years have passed and I'm still admiring the lyrics. Not only does the song have an uplifting and heart-warming beat, but the message of this song is timeless. It's easy to forget about songs that inevitably fall off the charts over time, but this song should never be underestimated if you ever need a mood boost or any type of moral guidance.
1. "One world, one world -- And something's wrong with it"
Even though this is towards the end of the song, it implies how all humans are living in the same world -- and it's not always a peaceful place even though we all share it together.
2. "Can you practice what you preach, and would you turn the other cheek?"
When a person tells someone else to do something, and then doesn't do it themselves. Whenever a person is feeling strongly that someone else should do the right thing versus the easy thing, this points out how if you tell someone to act morally correct -- you must do so as well.
3. "If love and peace are so strong, why are there pieces of love that don't belong?"
It's confusing how love and peace should be overpowering the cruelty of the world; however, this isn't the case when reflecting on how most people "love others" today.
4. "Nations droppin' bombs -- Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young"
The promotion of peace is key here, but so is the broken-hearted loss of a child having their abrupt life come to an end before experiencing some of the best parts since they won't ever have a chance to genuinely grow up.
5. "But if you only have love for your own race, then you only leave space to discriminate"
Racism is still existent today, even though it may be more discreet. While our nation has come a long way, this lyric hits on the fact some people have a tendency to still be biased on their own race -- which isn't right.
6. "A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover -- The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug"
We're usually only shown what we are supposed to see in certain situations, versus every detail from both sides of the truth.
7. "Father, Father, Father help us -- send some guidance from above"
Religion is a controversial topic, but here to promote peace the band looks up to a divine figure because love seems to be nonexistent in the world at this time.
8. "Wrong information always shown by the media"
The images displayed on the media can distort our perceptions of reality, whether it's a person being disappointed they don't look like a supermodel or a person getting a one-sided opinion on a certain subject due to an uneven amount of information.
9. "Most of us only care about money-making, selfishness got us following in the wrong direction"
We've become machines to the system of money, making it our first priority. Sometimes people will place their personal financial gain over their loved ones, living life with their priorities in the incorrect order when thinking about what's really important.
10. "Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight"
Since there are so many bad situations that occur around the world frequently, it's important to remind yourself to love either people, countries, families, etc. -- to make an attempt to create a balance.
11. "Where is the love?"
The title is nothing to be forgotten -- emphasizing the lack of love in the world we live in today. Between self-love, loving others, and limiting hate: These are all key things the band has established society could benefit from if people changed their perspective on life to be more loving.
