Zach Theatre announces Kathy Valentine as musical director for 'Head Over Heels'

Zach Theatre will present "Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid" from Jan. 23 to March 3.

Kathy Valentine of The Go-Go's is set to serve as musical director for Zach Theatre's "Head Over Heels" — a closer for the 2022-23 season announced Monday night along with the full 2023-24 season lineup.

Zach Theatre announced their upcoming shows to donors, subscribers and VIPs at the Monday night event. Here's everything you need to know:

Tell me more about Kathy Valentine!

Kathy Valentine, who's an Austinite and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, will not only serve as musical director for "Head Over Heels"; she'll also play bass for the show. The production will run Aug. 9 to Sept. 10 with a ZACH360 immersive experience.

"Head Over Heels" features music and lyrics by Valentine's band The Go-Go's.

What shows are part of the 2023-24 mainstage series?

Kicking off the next year's mainstage series is "Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone" from Sept. 14 to Oct. 1. Then comes "The Thin Place" from Oct. 18 to Dec. 3, "Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812" from Jan. 31 to March 3, and "The Prom" from April 3 to May 12. The last two shows are "The Lehman Trilogy" from June 19 to July 7 and "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" from July 31 to Sept. 8.

What about the family series?

The family series includes "The Girl Who Became Legend" from Sept. 26 to Nov. 4, "Una Noche Buena" from Dec. 1-15, "Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid" from Jan. 23 to March 3, and "A Year with Frog and Toad" from Feb. 20 to May 12.

Are there any add-ons for the upcoming season?

There are two holiday add-ons: "A Christmas Carol" from Nov. 17 to Dec. 31 and "POP!" Dec. 8-31. Dave Steakley, Zach's producing artistic director, will work with Allen Robertson and Zach artists to create the hits-filled sing-along "POP!"

How do I get tickets?

Currently, 2023-24 mainstage series tickets are available only to renewing subscribers. New subscribers can purchase a subscription this May, and single tickets will go on sale in August.
