10 Scary Kris Aquino Movies to Marathon This Halloween

(SPOT.ph) We all know that Kris Aquino is many things. We’re zeroing in, however, on her famous title: "Box-Office Horror Queen" (and to an extent, "Massacre Queen" during the ’90s). She’s certainly made enough films in this genre to complete a SPOT.ph list. Who knows, maybe you’d like to switch up your usual horror movie marathon this year.

Shake, Rattle & Roll 3 (1991)

The third installment of the popular horror franchise features Kris in the story "Yaya." She plays Tany, a mother who moves into a new house with her baby daughter. She hires a mysterious nanny for her baby, with horrific consequences, of course.

Scariest moment: When Tany comes face to face with the evil yaya, hellbent on taking her baby.

The Elsa Castillo Story... Ang Katotohanan (1994)

Directed by Laurice Guillen, this film is based on real-life events surrounding Elsa Castillo: a tragic story involving a married couple, and the illicit affair between Elsa and her lover. Another movie of the same title, directed by Edgardo Vinarao that same year, starred Lorna Tolentino, Matt Ranillo, and Mark Gil.

Scariest moment: When the husband learns of the affair and, in a fit of rage, butchers his wife. The scene popularized the term "chop-chop lady."

Dalaw (2010)

In this horror flick, she portrayed Stella, who reunites with her old flame Anton (Diether Ocampo). She starts having nightmares about her late husband Danilo (Richard Quan). When she moves into Anton’s ancestral house, the nightmares turn to reality and a vengeful ghost starts killing people one by one.

Scariest moment: When the entity takes on the form of Stella’s son, Paolo (Maliksi Morales).

Feng Shui (2004)

The film racked up P137 million, garnering positive reception from critics and moviegoers alike. This was also the first film to kick off Kris’ box-office horror hits. She plays Joy Ramirez, who finds a cursed bagua mirror that wreaks deadly (and creative) havoc on her and the neighborhood.

Scariest moment: When Joy’s friend Alice (who was born under the Year of the Horse) is killed and later reappears, alongside the Lotus Lady.

The Fatima Buen Story (1994)

At the helm of this critically acclaimed biopic is director Mario O’Hara. Kris plays the titular character, a convicted felon who gets caught in the middle of corruption in the big city as she tries to run from her past. We admit, it’s not exactly a horror movie, but O’Hara’s storytelling features some paranormal symbolism. Either way, it’s definitely worth a watch or two.

Scariest moment: Every time Fatima is relentlessly tormented by corrupt policeman, Oscar Kintanar (Zoren Legaspi).

Segunda Mano (2011)

Kris portrays Mabel, who unwittingly buys a secondhand bag from a boutique owned by her best friend (Bangs Garcia). She tries to impress her boyfriend Ivan (Dingdong Dantes) with said bag but-plot twist-it turns out that it was initially owned by Ivan’s late wife, Mariella (Angelica Panganiban). Mysterious deaths ensue.

Scariest moment: When Mariella haunts Mabel in a shop’s dressing room. Oh, and her apparition in the CCTV footage.

Sukob (2006)

The plot revolves around the Filipino belief that one should not marry within the same year that an immediate family member passes away. Enter Sandy (played by Kris) and Diana (Claudine Barretto) who do not heed this belief, and their relatives begin to die and disappear one by one.

Scariest moment: Literally every time that flower girl shows up. Seriously.

The Myrna Diones Story (Lord, Have Mercy!) (1993)

Directed by Carlo J. Caparas, the film is a retelling of the grisly rape, torture and murder of four women (one of them pregnant) by five police officers in Benguet. Kris is the titular character who unbelievably survives the ordeal, even after being stabbed and thrown off a cliff.

Scariest moment: The gruesome and disturbing murder in its entirety.

The Vizconde Massacre (God Help Us) (1993)

This movie is based on the brutal and sensational murder of the Vizconde family members on June 30, 1991, in their home at Parañaque. Once again, Carlo J. Caparas directs the massacre flick that was actually filmed where the heinous crime took place. He later shot a sequel, which tells the "untold chapter" of the story.

Scariest moment: Kris (as Carmela Vizconde) acting out the victim’s final moments.

Feng Shui 2 (2014)

Yes, we know the movie isn’t slated for release until December 25, but there are high hopes for the film that follows the highly successful Feng Shui. This time, Coco Martin joins the cast as a down-on-his-luck lad who stumbles upon the cursed bagua. Maybe you can consider extending your marathon until then.

Scariest moment: Wait and see, but Kris does say there will be plenty of exciting deaths.
