The actress and mom of two, who graces the December 2017 issue of People Asia magazine, revealed that she and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista almost got married, had the latter not cancelled the wedding. "I still remember the date, April 8, 2014, inatrasan ako sa kasal ni Herbert. Over the phone. I was in Bellevue Hotel in Alabang because we were celebrating the (advance) seventh birthday of Bimbi," Kris told the magazine, as reported here.
No details were given on what made the actor-turned-politician change his mind.
However, according to Kris, Herbert again asked for her hand in marriage early this year, when they both happened to be in Italy: she for a pilgrimage, and he on an official capacity as a public servant. He reportedly gave her a diamond ring, which she accepted.
She returned the ring the following day.
“I returned it the next day because I said that we will always have responsibilities that came before he and I meet. And as long as our children are not done yet with their studies, I don’t think we have the freedom to be able to choose happiness."
Kris is mom to 22-year-old Joshua Salvador, from her relationship with actor Philip Salvador, and Bimby Yap, 10 years old, with ex-husband James Yap.
Herbert, on the other hand, has four kids: Athena, 21, who studies at the Ateneo, and Harvey, 14, who was a cast member of ABS-CBN's Goin' Bulilit, with radio host Tates Gana; and sons Race, 20, a film student in New York, and Cray, a guitar prodigy at the UP College of Music, with producer Eloisa Matias.
“I returned the ring not because gusto kong iparamdam sa kanya kung anong pinaramdam niya sa akin three years before that. It was because nagising na ko.
"I just realized that a person like him and a person like me can’t be together because (my mom said this already) in a home there can only be one star. And I think, a union like that would require me to no longer be me. And I still want to be me,” she said.
