The Beneficial and Detrimental Effects of Phonology Essay
For years, phonology has been incorporated into language education. Young children are introduced to
phonics as educators take them through visual flash cards, teaching them the sounds of the alphabet.
Children learn to connect sounds into words, using what they learned from the alphabet to apply a
system of sounds into a word. Controversy regarding this reading education method has additionally
been popular. Although researchers have found negative effects in learning to read phonologically,
teachers can still strategically incorporate it into the classroom as long as they are aware of its
potential negative effects. According to Bentin S. (1991), phonological awareness is the ability to
recognize the internal phonetic structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is partially because the English language is sometimes difficult to phonetically learn since some
rules do not apply and it becomes confusing for the learner and difficult for the educator. Although
semantics appear to be a beneficial method, there are many scholars who argue otherwise. Dewhurst,
S. and Robinson, C. (2004) discuss some of the negative effects among children whose education
focuses more on semantics than phonetics. The study was conducted on 5,8, and 11 year old children
and children from each age group falsely recalled nonpresented items related to the study lists (782).
Although the study varied depending on the age group, it was clear that the focus of semantics has
caused children to have memory illusions as they read (782). Many scholars argue that phonetics is the
most effective way to teach reading skills because it makes the individual a better reader in the long
run. Once a child can phonetically read, they have the capability to pick any book up and sound out its
contents. Children who learn semantically are unable to do this because they learn to memorize certain
words as they go. A positive element to learning semantically, however, is the child s ability to read
quickly. Once a child has established a memorization and recognition to words, they are able to read
very quickly. Children who learn phonetically are often slower since they are sometimes required to
stop and sound it out . However

Langston Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, and columnist from Missouri. They

Raoul Hausmann s Influence In Three Selected Art Works
The following are three selected art works demonstrate this influence.
In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and
disproportions the human form through deconstruction to have a simultaneously insulting and
humorous effect on his viewers.
Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to
Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from
1916 to 1924. Hausmann became one of the founding members of Dada in Berlin; a style which
centres on the mockery of materialistic and nationalistic attitudes formed in World War 1. Its
influences include other avant garde movements such as Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and
Expressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Figurative Language In Ozymandias
Can one person truly immortalize himself? This is a question most people are often plagued with.
Although one s body is mortal, Ozymandias, written by Shelley, conveys the truth of immortality. The
poem is about a traveler telling a story about an Egyptian pharaoh,
Ozymandias, and his statue. In the poem, a statue of Ozymandias is described by the author as
crumbled and scarcely left. Even though he was successful in his time period, his legacy could not
last. Therefore, no matter how much power one holds, his work will eventually be forgotten to all and
left in the past. Nothing truly can remain throughout all of time: everything one built will eventually
be destroyed by time. The idea that power is transient is portrayed through
Shelley s use of irony, symbolism, and figurative language.
Irony is extremely prevalent in this poem, contrasting power and mortality. Throughout this piece, the
author describes Ozymandias as a ruthless and powerful Egyptian ruler, but continually relates back to
the current state of his achievements. For instance, the engraving on
Ozymandias s statue states,
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Sarah Kelley: good title
Sarah Kelley: citation needed
Labas 2
The author dictates that Ozymandias was attempting for his statue to be a symbol of strength.
This is evident through how he views himself, as the King of Kings , and how he tells people that
view the statue that they must look at everything he has accomplished and cower before his power.
However, there is nothing left of his work, except for his crumbling statue and his kingdom of ruins.
This use of irony strengthens the idea that power is transient because
Ozymandias was extremely feared and he held a massive amount of authority. Nevertheless, all that he
succeeded in building played victim to the cruel hands of time. The irony transforms the tone of the
poem from prideful to pitiful.
Furthermore, symbolism plays a huge part in this poem. One of the main symbols in this piece was the
sand. Shelley mentions the sand multiple times to draw emphasis to it, and pairs it with words such as
stretch and level . These words pertain to time, and one can assume the sand is referring

The Difference Between Character And Intellect
The difference between character and intellect is that character is based on moral reasoning and
conduct whereas intellect is the understanding of moral reasoning and decision making. Being
intelligent due to a higher education does not teach people to have strong morals in society. The
application of what you learn intellectually to strengthen you character is what is important giving you
a good moral standing in society and towards others. In the case study called The Disparity between
Intellect and Character, Robert Coles was challenged by a sophomore who brought the realization to
the professor of how intellectually people may be extremely smart but their education does not teach
them how to be good citizens but depletes the content of their moral character. The difference between
character and intellect is evident in how you apply your morals even though you may have a higher
education. The character of a person with morals and scruples, knowing the difference between what
is right and wrong is as he indicates equated with moral conduct . The irony of the question posed by
the student to Coles when she says I ve been taking these philosophy courses, and we talk about what
s true, what s important and what s good. Well how do you teach people to be good? And she added
What s the point of knowing good, if you don t keep trying to become a good person. The question
about character and moral reasoning is more important than the intellect which is

Nature Beauty Price strategy will be the penetration theory for my product. Penetration is pricing low

foundation will not be a new product that no company has similar to. We will need to start by gaining
the trust of the consumers by word of mouth and different marketing strategies to the targeted
customers. This way once the product has some buzz and customers appreciate the products value, we

However, even though it s easier to start high and lower prices later down the line, depending on sales
of the products, we don t want to jump the broom on the price set. We believe that we meet the
expectation for a higher price and will strive to become a brand that can set a premium price like it
leading competitors. Nature Beauty does want to use the theory framing on the products that
compliments the mineral powder foundation. Framing is pricing higher prices and then discount to
make the consumers feel better. There will be promotions that will give consumers the chance to try
these products such lotion, facial cleanser, beauty bar soap, make up remover wipes, and future idea
products for free or at a discounted price. But they will not always be on sale. Nature beauty will push
these products out individually starting out high then discounting them after we introduced the new
and latest product.
Legal issues and Ethical issues in pricing tactics are very slim. We are pricing competitively against
our competitors. Nature Beauty is not pricing to high and pricing to low. We believe that we are taking
a competitive approach against the leading competition. There shouldn t be any ethical issues with the
pricing either.

The Hero In The Giver By Lois Lowry s The Giver
In her 1994 Newberry Acceptance Speech, author Lois Lowry recalls a memory of a girl in her college
dormitory. She describes the young woman saying She s a smart girl, a good student, a pleasant
enough person, but she is different, somehow alien, (Lowry, Newbery Acceptance Speech ). One can
see how Lowry had inspiration for the character Jonas in her novel, The Giver. When writing, The
Giver Lowry creates a dystopian society where the government has taken away the population s ability
to remember the past, see color, or have feelings. In the novel, Lois Lowry presents the protagonist
and hero, Jonas. Jonas gets chosen to be the Receiver of Memory and his whole life changes. The
current Receiver, an old man Jonas calls The Giver shows Jonas memories from the past that contain
aspects ranging from history to feelings. He becomes aware of the government s actions in hiding all
the qualities and rebels against them in the end, leaving the city behind. Jonas is a twelve year old hero
who is different, yet intelligent, and more selfless than the majority of the population in the novel.
Jonas s heroic personality can be analyzed through his vision, his reactions when receiving memories,
and when he risks his life.
Lowry first shows Jonas s heroism through how different he is from to the rest of the population
through his vision. Whether it is through his eyes physically or the portrayal of color, Lowry
emphasizes the importance of Jonas s vision. At the beginning of the novel, Lowry describes Jonas s
eyes differently than the rest of the population. She says Almost every citizen in the community had
dark eyes. His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there
were a few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter
eyes. (Lowry, The Giver 20). The description of Jonas s eyes indicates that there is something special
about him and different than the rest of the population because his eyes are pale while the majority of
others are dark.
Jonas can see more deeply into objects than everyone else too again, showing how different and
intelligent he is from to the rest of society. Lowry writes about Jonas s first experience with color

Milton s Views On Morality
Many of John Milton s works quite often bring into question Milton s stance and beliefs on morality.
However there are two pieces in particular that heavily express Milton s views on morality. Those two
pieces are Areopagetica, and The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, otherwise known as Comus.
However these two pieces represent a very specific stance that Milton has on morality. Areopagetica
and Comus both express Milton s belief that in order for society to remain pure and good, they must
be properly exposed to temptation and that which is impure. This is very evident in Areopagetica
when Milton argues that parliament should not restrict literature that they deem as bad or impure,
because it will not allow the people to become aware of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milton believes that it is necessary to have books and literature that is considered bad or impure. He
feels that exposure to such impure thoughts, beliefs, and temptations are how society learns and
grows. At one point Milton states that but herein the difference is of bad books, that they to a discreet
and judicious reader serve in many respects to discover, to confute, to forewarn, and to illustrate
(Milton). Here Milton is expressing his belief that bad books don t have to always have a negative
effect on those who read them. In fact, these bad readings can be a way for the reader to learn and
become more informed of these bad and impure things, and therefore be able to avoid them. Milton
believes that parliament should not repress these pieces of literature that they deem bad, because in
order for society to become morally healthy and avoid these impure thoughts and temptations, they
must be exposed to them and learn from them. This belief in exposure to impurity and temptation as a
necessity is further expressed by Milton in The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, more simply
known as Comus. The story of Comus is the story of a brute, fiendish character known as Comus, who
lures the Lady into the woods and binds her to a chair and tries to convince her to drink his special
elixir. However, the lady is able to resist Comus advances by claiming that But such as are good men

Essay Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana
In America the fight over marijuana has been going on for years now. Twenty five states have
legalized marijuana for medical or recreational use. In the other half of the nation marijuana is a
schedule one drug alongside heroin and LSD, higher on the list than cocaine and meth. For being such
a dangerous drug, marijuana is used by over twenty million Americans. (Ingraham) Legalizing
marijuana has many benefits economically, medically, and recreationally. Pot is legal recreationally in
Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and the District of Columbia. Marijuana has many benefits
when used recreationally as well as for medical uses. A study in the journal Obesity found that regular

Pot has been proven many times to treat epileptic seizures, decrease anxiety, and to slow the
progression of Alzheimer s disease. It s even been proven to prevent cancer from spreading. (Walsh)
Along with all the medical uses for it, it can loosen our dependency on other expensive pills and
treatments. There are many beneficial uses of marijuana but the government still lists it as a schedule
one drug and won t give it to people in need. There are many benefits of use recreationally and
medicinally. The legalization of marijuana in the U.S. would benefit our economy greatly. Washington
state brings in $500 million in tax revenues for marijuana. Colorado made over $5 million from pot
sales in 2011 alone. It s estimated that illegal marijuana is currently a $36 billion a year industry, if
that money was going into our government and nationwide funding it would be a tremendous benefit.
Not only is the marijuana business a gold mine, but the costs we would save from prison costs is
phenomenal. Inmates incarcerated on marijuana related charges cost U.S. prisons $1 billion annually.

Goal Beliefs Extreme sports may seem like a hard thing to conquer, having all of the risks and

The King Of The Israelites
he conquest of the Israelites spread like a lightning bolt. All the countries that lived within the
boundaries of the Promised Land were in utter fear for their lives. Kings who had strong fortified
cities within massive stone walls trembled as the stories flooded in telling them how easily Israel
fought and defeated everyone in their path.
Kings everywhere came together in a united effort to stop God s people from entering into their
country. Instead their defiance of God s will was met with utter devastation. No one could stand up to
the power behind the Israelite army.
Israel held tightly to the Laws of Moses doing everything commanded. Because of each man s
faithfulness a supernatural ability took over each fighting soldier giving them the ability to stand and
defeat a thousand men.
Leviticus 26:7 8, You will be victorious over your enemies; five of you will be able to defeat a
hundred, and a hundred will be able to defeat ten thousand.
Every promise in the Law was fulfilled because the Israelites made a conscious effort to remember the
Laws and apply them to their lives. Their faithfulness to God s words empowered the Spiritual forces
of the unseen heavenly kingdom and the Spirits of God ran to protect every soldier from harm while
enabling them to defeat every person who tried to come up against them.

The Importance Of A Parliamentary System For The Nation Of...
The people of Bigmessia in order to move from the past, to shift forward for the present, and preserve
a better future for our upcoming generations do declare and affirm this Constitution for the nation of
Bigmessia.
The nation of Bigmessia will work better with a parliamentary system due to two aspects: the
international success of parliamentarism and the history of Bigmessia. The flexibility of a
parliamentary system provides the best method for managing such a diverse nation (Linz, 61). There
are too many issues and interests in Bigmessia in which having one strong executive can be very
detrimental and problematic. The plethora of peoples and issues require a legislating body or leader to
have careful deliberation and coalition building that only a parliamentary system can provide. The last
thing Bigmessia needs is more polarization (more likely to come with presidentalism).
In a country with ethnic, economic and religious divides, there needs to be a leader that can be a
unifying symbol for the majority of Bigmessia. Thus, this neutral figure can provide moral ballast in a
crisis or act as a moderator between the prime minister and his opponents (Linz, 61). The president
will be elected by the entire country and requires a majority of 60% to win. If there is no majority,
then the top two candidates will move into a run off election. This percentage ensures that the people
have to vote for someone that most people admire or respect, since even if the Christian

Types Of Reproduction And Asexual Reproduction
Introduction:
We explored the reproductive system. It is important because without it all living things would
become extinct.
The two different types of reproduction are sexual and asexual reproduction. Types of asexual
reproduction include binary fission, budding, and fragmentation. Budding is when another organism
grows out of the parent cell, and separates once it s fully developed. Fragmentation is when an
organism splits into more pieces which each form into their own organism. Binary fission is when the
parent cell copies its genetic material and then splits into two. The advantages of asexual reproduction
are that it produces a lot of offspring, takes little energy, and is speedy. The disadvantage is that the
offspring are clones. Types of sexual reproduction include external and internal fertilization. External
fertilization means that the eggs are fertilized outside of the two parent organisms, while internal
fertilization happens inside of the two parent organisms. The advantages of sexual reproduction is that
the offspring vary genetically. The disadvantages are that there are fewer offspring, it takes longer, it
requires more energy, and a partner must be found.
Gametogenesis is the production of gametes. There are two kinds of gametogenesis, oogenesis and
spermatogenesis. Oogenesis happens in the ovaries, and makes eggs. It only happens during fetal
development, and produces two polar bodies and one ovum. Spermatogenesis happens in the testes,
and occurs

Two U.S. Vacation Hot Spots Essay
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest vacation spot hands down is in
Key West, Florida and the `coolest place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These
vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally
have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of
them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to

Since both vacation spots have different climates, they both offer a variety of different activities to do
and adventures to have. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous
water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet
skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water
apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking,
climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various
exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing,
hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food.
One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of
the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to
cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round
trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to
Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine
hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay

include: Arkansas, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. They compared eligibility to qualify
Medicaid programs like the Elderly Waiver, between the states. The main form of qualification for
Medicaid programs is Social Security. According to Carlson, Coffey, Fecondo, and Newcomer (2010),
the income limit to be eligible for Social Security in 2008 was $637 a month, and assets could not
exceed $2,000. Another main point of the article, Medicaid Funding for Assisted Living Care: A Five
State Examination, the screening to get into these facilities is similar between the five states studied.
This creates a process that is easy to carry out for the nurses and social workers working for these
facilities. Carlson et. al (2010), state that one of these requirements for all five states is that applicants

Swot Analysis Of Brown s Investments And Portfolio...
Strengths related to Brown s Investments and Portfolio Management Our team has carefully reviewed
your portfolio and have identified areas of strength and areas that need improvement. The term
portfolio includes all your investment accounts except the 529 Plan which we analyzed separately.
One strength in regards to your portfolio is that it has outperformed the market over the last ten years.
This means that on average your returns were greater than the returns of the market. Outperforming
the market is not guaranteed each year, but when it does occur, you are generating higher returns and
increasing your likelihood of meeting your financial goals. Areas of Improvement Though you have
several strengths related to your portfolio, our team did find a few areas that could be improved. Our
primary issue with your current portfolio is your high equity allocation; this means that a majority of
your portfolio is held in stocks. When a majority of your portfolio is held in stocks, you are not
diversifying throughout all asset options available to you and are opening yourself up to a higher level
of risk. By diversifying throughout different types of assets, cash, bonds, stocks, etc., you minimize
your risk and are more likely to reach your goals. The next area of improvement we would like to
discuss is the lack of variety in the quality and maturity in your bold holdings. Diversification doesn t
apply to just the asset classes, it also applies to the assets within the

Hawaiian Food Research Paper
Hawaii is full of beauty, and hopefully the food is the same. There are so many things that influences
the food in Hawaii, what goes into making each dish, and that makes Hawaiian food different.
There is a lot that influences Hawaiian cuisine. Different cultures had influenced Hawaiian food.
Native Hawaiians, Samoans, Tongans, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and Haole have influenced the
food in Hawaii (hawaii.edu). Since, Hawaii is made up of islands, and it has the perfect soil to grow
plants. Which most of their fruits and vegetables are grown mostly in their backyards. The livestock
and marine life also influence what Hawaiians eat. Because Hawaii has a lot of seafood and meat in
their meals. Most of Hawaii s islands have ranches on them with most of them on the larger islands.
Mexican cowboys have taught Hawaiians how to manage their herds.

Pro Drug Legalization
People have been using drugs since the beginning of time; yet, their use has been proclaimed illegal
for the last hundred years. The ban on illegal drugs has become one of the most controversial and
debated issues. A century of prohibition has proven that the drug use cannot be eradicated altogether
and that society should search for a new solution. The drugs are an unfortunate part of our reality, and
a proper and more compassionate view on addicts must be devised. There are many arguments that
support the notion of the drug legalization, and they should be closely inspected.
First of all, in the era of defining and implementing human rights, one should be free to choose for
himself, even if his or her choices bring harm. If people choose to use drugs that damage their own
body and psyche and do not harm others in the process, it should be considered a health issue rather
than a criminal act. For example, when people try to harm themselves, or take their life, by the
overuse of prescribed medications, they are not taken to prison or court but rather hospitalized. They
are treated as long as the reasons and the consequences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There would be numerous benefits. If the use is institutionalized and the drugs are prescribed and
issued under the control of health specialist together with sterile syringes and needles, many diseases
such as HIV and hepatitis B and C would be prevented. The quality and dosage would be monitored
so that no deaths by overdose or poor quality drugs would occur. The criminal organizations that
thrive from selling drugs would become obsolete, and so would their pressure on people to use and
buy the drugs. There have been many examples of the former drug users being hauled into using again
by their past drug dealers fixated only on their personal profit. The health specialists would, on the
other hand, advise them against their addiction and offer proper medical

Three Principles Of Distributive Justice
People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention, praise,
etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different people. There are three principles of distributive justice,
these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting goods or rewards in
direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater importance. For example, a
star player in the pro league may deserve higher pay then his/her teammate who warms the bench.
Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is distributive justice (equity) in that they are
being fairly paid in correspondence to their contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand,
means equal rewards for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be said that altruism is the opposite of selfishness. One who is altruistic is concerned with the
welfare of others without expectations of anything in return. ABS CBN s slogan: In the Service of the
Filipino Worldwide comes off as very altruistic. I mean, they are for the service of all Filipinos with
no intention of getting anything in return right? Maybe. Maybe not. This is not to say that ABS CBN
does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological theories and concepts, the
psychology of helping is complex and multi faceted. For one, there are different motivations to why
people help. Let us discuss these in relation to ABS CBN s slogan. Apart from altruism, there are three
other kinds of motivations. Collectivism in regard to helping is serving the community to benefit a
certain group or collective of people. The group can range from 2 people to 2 billion. When one is part
of a group, there is a tendency to not only want to help and better your group, there is a tendency to
feel indebted to help simply because you are part of the group. Either way it is the motivation to help
because of being part of particular collection of people. ABS CBN can easily have collectivism as its
motive, wanting to enhance and empower the Filipino people and society of which they belong to as a
corporation. Their slogan can be seen as valuing the welfare of the Filipino people, a collective ABS

Simon As A Christ Figure In William Golding s Lord Of The...
In the novel Lord of The Flies, William Golding portrayed Simon as a Christ figure. Simon and Jesus
led parallel lives. Simon s appearance seemed to resemble that of Jesus Christ s. Simon picked fruit
from the tree to feed the littluns. He also practiced deep meditation away from the other children.
Simon received messages from the Lord of The Flies while meditating. Simon also tried to illuminate
the children about the myth of the beast and dies a horrific death at the hands of the people he loved.
He received an almost angelic burial. His death marks the completion of the destruction of the island s
civilization. All of these events allude to Jesus s life events, according to the scriptures in the Bible.
Simon s appearance seemed to resemble that of Jesus Christ s. Simon is described as having no

is also described as non good looker himself. ...there is no beauty that we should desire him. (Isaiah

Glass Movie Reflection
As I watched the movie, I noticed a variety of hints that made me question Glass character and I was a
little frustrated that the other characters weren t able to pick up on them. I first sensed that Glass was a
little odd when he kept downgrading himself and his own work. This begins when Glass is talking to
Gloria and he says that his piece is going Horrible and moves into a meeting with Amy and Caitlin
where he says that they hate his piece, it s the worst thing he s ever wrote , and that he might as well
kill himself . This all happening within the first ten minutes of the movie, was causing red flags to pop
up in my head, wondering how he could be so self loathing and dramatic without anyone noticing. As
the movie progresses, I can see that Glass is using his self loathing to manipulate his coworkers into
helping him on his papers, dodging discipline from editors, and averting inquisitiveness away from his
pieces. One of the key phrases that I noticed he always used was Did I do something wrong? Are you
mad at me? which usually was reverberated with a resilient no . This stressed that he was emotionally
manipulating his coworkers in order to get away with his falsified work. All of these actions are what I
would consider a flawed person. His manipulation, blatant lies, and exaggeration s are what I believe
make him a flawed especially when he applied it to his line of work. The reason that these attributes
make him more of a flawed person when applied to

How Different Cultures React to Death and Dying
How Different Cultures React to Death and Dying
Abstract
This research explores the literature across cultures on death and dying in order to highlight the impact
of culture on reactions to death and the dying process. A theoretical framework is established, using
Elizabeth Kubler Ross s five stages of dying, followed by a succinct discussion of the reactions and
attitudes toward death and the dying process of four cultures (Buddhist, Hindu, Native American and
American). By illustrating the different reactions and attitudes toward death of these cultures, it is
revealed that through increased cultural understanding health care workers can provide more
personalized care to the dying.

Instead, they believe the body must be cremated quickly after death. As Lama (2004, p. 1) maintains,
The belief that once it sheds its body, the soul prepares to depart immediately on its karmic journey,
and as such, it s very important to cremate the body as soon as practical so as not to provide any
allurement for the soul to linger on this side of the world. In such cultures there is little relating to the
bargaining or depression stages of Kubler Ross theory, but acceptance certainly applies to both Hindus
and Buddhists. In fact, for the gerontologist, increased cultural understanding of the death and dying
process aids overall quality of care. As Barker (1999, p. 161) reports on one study conducted on
Hindus in a British community, ...poor communication due to linguistic and cultural distance between
relatives and hospital staff, as well as lack of sensitivity involving the latter, may be most distressful to
the dying and their relatives.
Native Americans Native Americans also had and still have a unique perspective on death. It is
doubtful Native Americans relate to any of the phases outlined by Kubler Ross, save for acceptance.
For Native Americans perceive death as merely one facet of what they view as the Sacred hoop of life,
(Turner Weeden, 1995, p. 11). This is because of their unique worldview with respect to what happens
to the soul after death. Native Americans view life and death as a circular movement, wherein the

for discovering the whereabouts of the pirates secret island base. Matt s first person narration states,
My share of the reward was more than enough for tuition to the Academy, and with letters of reference
from Captain Walken, I was offered a place starting in the spring term. The remainder of the reward
money took care of my mother and sisters, while I was a student and sending back no salary from the

Personal Narrative-Sacrifice Attacks In The US
I barely recognize these fig strangled ruins. I used to come here as a kid. I mean, relations between the
two states wasn t cordial or anything, and there were violent incidents, and most of us stayed to

freely between the two lands, with only a checkpoint or two between the traveler and a little bit of rest
and relaxation on the other side, if you know what I mean. Stuff that didn t really interest pre teen me.

The American Girls Softball League
In the year 1943, Philip K. Wrigley founded the All American Girls Softball League. He formed the
league to entertain baseball fans while many of the men were away fighting WWII. What began as a
softball league transformed to baseball league that eventually became known as the All American
Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). The league was designed with fifteen teams made up
of twenty to twenty five women spread out across America. The league existed for twelve years, from
1943 to 1954. This was a period of time when women were not supposed to have professional careers
outside of the home, much less careers that involved professional athletics. Girls were expected to
grow up to be wives and mothers, not baseball players. The women of the AAGPBL were athletic
pioneers who pursued and captured their dreams of playing professional baseball in much the same
way as men had for decades. World War Two opened the door for the women of the AAGPBL to take
a huge role in the American public. On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii, becoming the largest attack on American soil until the events of 9/11. The United States went
to war almost immediately, sending out military grade men between the ages of 18 and 39 to fight in
the war between the German and Japanese forces. With the war requiring so many men who would
usually be populating the workforce, a sudden unexpected labor shortage emerged. This was only

A Visual Folio Showing How Dior Changed The World
Introduction
The goal of my personal project was to make a visual folio showing how Dior has evolved over the
years. I chose Human Ingenuity as my Area of Inspiration because I believe that it was best suited for
the goal of my project. This Area of Inspiration is about exploring the effects of human inventions on
the world. My project relates strongly with this as I am researching how Christian Dior changed the
fashion world with his inventions and how the styles he created revolutionised fashion after World
War Two. He invented styles that are still being worn and loved by women. I was particularly
interested in learning what is it about the brand that people love so much and how he was able to
influence so many people with his designs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step taken was the beginning of the research by using the resources from the library and the
Internet. I collected information and images that would all be used in the final folio. This was difficult
at some points as I had so much information to read through, understand and then interpret. I also
struggled with timing it so that I would meet all the deadlines. However, I did manage to finish all
most of my research by week 7.
The third step I took in order to complete the project was putting my folio together. I used the skills I
had learnt from Vis Com to create collages and aesthetically pleasing pages. I found that this took me
the most time, as I had to think carefully about the presentation of the information. I went to Office
Works for some supplies in helping put the folio together.
The final steps taken in the process of achieving the goal were to complete the journal entries and the
written report. I then began to think about the way my table would be displayed on the expo night.
This was the best way to create my product because it gave me as much research as possible and
prepared me for creating my folio. It allowed for me to have enough time to discuss with teaches,
family and friends how I was going to make a successful product.
The journey of completing the project was mostly smooth although there were a few obstacles
encountered along the way. I struggled with finding information at some points and found that I would

  • 2. The Beneficial and Detrimental Effects of Phonology Essay For years, phonology has been incorporated into language education. Young children are introduced to phonics as educators take them through visual flash cards, teaching them the sounds of the alphabet. Children learn to connect sounds into words, using what they learned from the alphabet to apply a system of sounds into a word. Controversy regarding this reading education method has additionally been popular. Although researchers have found negative effects in learning to read phonologically, teachers can still strategically incorporate it into the classroom as long as they are aware of its potential negative effects. According to Bentin S. (1991), phonological awareness is the ability to recognize the internal phonetic structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is partially because the English language is sometimes difficult to phonetically learn since some rules do not apply and it becomes confusing for the learner and difficult for the educator. Although semantics appear to be a beneficial method, there are many scholars who argue otherwise. Dewhurst, S. and Robinson, C. (2004) discuss some of the negative effects among children whose education focuses more on semantics than phonetics. The study was conducted on 5,8, and 11 year old children and children from each age group falsely recalled nonpresented items related to the study lists (782). Although the study varied depending on the age group, it was clear that the focus of semantics has caused children to have memory illusions as they read (782). Many scholars argue that phonetics is the most effective way to teach reading skills because it makes the individual a better reader in the long run. Once a child can phonetically read, they have the capability to pick any book up and sound out its contents. Children who learn semantically are unable to do this because they learn to memorize certain words as they go. A positive element to learning semantically, however, is the child s ability to read quickly. Once a child has established a memorization and recognition to words, they are able to read very quickly. Children who learn phonetically are often slower since they are sometimes required to stop and sound it out . However ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and disproportions the human form through deconstruction to have a simultaneously insulting and humorous effect on his viewers. Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from 1916 to 1924. Hausmann became one of the founding members of Dada in Berlin; a style which centres on the mockery of materialistic and nationalistic attitudes formed in World War 1. • 5. Figurative Language In Ozymandias Can one person truly immortalize himself? This is a question most people are often plagued with. Although one s body is mortal, Ozymandias, written by Shelley, conveys the truth of immortality. The poem is about a traveler telling a story about an Egyptian pharaoh, Ozymandias, and his statue. In the poem, a statue of Ozymandias is described by the author as crumbled and scarcely left. Even though he was successful in his time period, his legacy could not last. Therefore, no matter how much power one holds, his work will eventually be forgotten to all and left in the past. Nothing truly can remain throughout all of time: everything one built will eventually be destroyed by time. The idea that power is transient is portrayed through Shelley s use of irony, symbolism, and figurative language. Irony is extremely prevalent in this poem, contrasting power and mortality. Throughout this piece, the author describes Ozymandias as a ruthless and powerful Egyptian ruler, but continually relates back to the current state of his achievements. For instance, the engraving on Ozymandias s statue states, My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Sarah Kelley: good title Sarah Kelley: citation needed Labas 2 The author dictates that Ozymandias was attempting for his statue to be a symbol of strength. This is evident through how he views himself, as the King of Kings , and how he tells people that view the statue that they must look at everything he has accomplished and cower before his power. However, there is nothing left of his work, except for his crumbling statue and his kingdom of ruins. This use of irony strengthens the idea that power is transient because Ozymandias was extremely feared and he held a massive amount of authority. Nevertheless, all that he succeeded in building played victim to the cruel hands of time. The irony transforms the tone of the poem from prideful to pitiful. Furthermore, symbolism plays a huge part in this poem. One of the main symbols in this piece was the sand. Shelley mentions the sand multiple times to draw emphasis to it, and pairs it with words such as stretch and level . These words pertain to time, and one can assume the sand is referring ... • 6. The Difference Between Character And Intellect The difference between character and intellect is that character is based on moral reasoning and conduct whereas intellect is the understanding of moral reasoning and decision making. Being intelligent due to a higher education does not teach people to have strong morals in society. The application of what you learn intellectually to strengthen you character is what is important giving you a good moral standing in society and towards others. In the case study called The Disparity between Intellect and Character, Robert Coles was challenged by a sophomore who brought the realization to the professor of how intellectually people may be extremely smart but their education does not teach them how to be good citizens but depletes the content of their moral character. The difference between character and intellect is evident in how you apply your morals even though you may have a higher education. The character of a person with morals and scruples, knowing the difference between what is right and wrong is as he indicates equated with moral conduct . The irony of the question posed by the student to Coles when she says I ve been taking these philosophy courses, and we talk about what s true, what s important and what s good. Well how do you teach people to be good? And she added What s the point of knowing good, if you don t keep trying to become a good person. • 9. The Hero In The Giver By Lois Lowry s The Giver In her 1994 Newberry Acceptance Speech, author Lois Lowry recalls a memory of a girl in her college dormitory. She describes the young woman saying She s a smart girl, a good student, a pleasant enough person, but she is different, somehow alien, (Lowry, Newbery Acceptance Speech ). One can see how Lowry had inspiration for the character Jonas in her novel, The Giver. When writing, The Giver Lowry creates a dystopian society where the government has taken away the population s ability to remember the past, see color, or have feelings. In the novel, Lois Lowry presents the protagonist and hero, Jonas. Jonas gets chosen to be the Receiver of Memory and his whole life changes. The current Receiver, an old man Jonas calls The Giver shows Jonas memories from the past that contain aspects ranging from history to feelings. He becomes aware of the government s actions in hiding all the qualities and rebels against them in the end, leaving the city behind. Jonas is a twelve year old hero who is different, yet intelligent, and more selfless than the majority of the population in the novel. Jonas s heroic personality can be analyzed through his vision, his reactions when receiving memories, and when he risks his life. Lowry first shows Jonas s heroism through how different he is from to the rest of the population through his vision. Whether it is through his eyes physically or the portrayal of color, Lowry emphasizes the importance of Jonas s vision. At the beginning of the novel, Lowry describes Jonas s eyes differently than the rest of the population. She says Almost every citizen in the community had dark eyes. His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter eyes. (Lowry, The Giver 20). The description of Jonas s eyes indicates that there is something special about him and different than the rest of the population because his eyes are pale while the majority of others are dark. Jonas can see more deeply into objects than everyone else too again, showing how different and intelligent he is from to the rest of society. Lowry writes about Jonas s first experience with color ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Milton s Views On Morality Many of John Milton s works quite often bring into question Milton s stance and beliefs on morality. However there are two pieces in particular that heavily express Milton s views on morality. Those two pieces are Areopagetica, and The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, otherwise known as Comus. However these two pieces represent a very specific stance that Milton has on morality. Areopagetica and Comus both express Milton s belief that in order for society to remain pure and good, they must be properly exposed to temptation and that which is impure. This is very evident in Areopagetica when Milton argues that parliament should not restrict literature that they deem as bad or impure, because it will not allow the people to become aware of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Milton believes that it is necessary to have books and literature that is considered bad or impure. He feels that exposure to such impure thoughts, beliefs, and temptations are how society learns and grows. At one point Milton states that but herein the difference is of bad books, that they to a discreet and judicious reader serve in many respects to discover, to confute, to forewarn, and to illustrate (Milton). Here Milton is expressing his belief that bad books don t have to always have a negative effect on those who read them. In fact, these bad readings can be a way for the reader to learn and become more informed of these bad and impure things, and therefore be able to avoid them. Milton believes that parliament should not repress these pieces of literature that they deem bad, because in order for society to become morally healthy and avoid these impure thoughts and temptations, they must be exposed to them and learn from them. This belief in exposure to impurity and temptation as a necessity is further expressed by Milton in The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, more simply known as Comus. The story of Comus is the story of a brute, fiendish character known as Comus, who lures the Lady into the woods and binds her to a chair and tries to convince her to drink his special elixir. • 15. The King Of The Israelites he conquest of the Israelites spread like a lightning bolt. All the countries that lived within the boundaries of the Promised Land were in utter fear for their lives. Kings who had strong fortified cities within massive stone walls trembled as the stories flooded in telling them how easily Israel fought and defeated everyone in their path. Kings everywhere came together in a united effort to stop God s people from entering into their country. Instead their defiance of God s will was met with utter devastation. No one could stand up to the power behind the Israelite army. Israel held tightly to the Laws of Moses doing everything commanded. Because of each man s faithfulness a supernatural ability took over each fighting soldier giving them the ability to stand and defeat a thousand men. Leviticus 26:7 8, You will be victorious over your enemies; five of you will be able to defeat a hundred, and a hundred will be able to defeat ten thousand. Every promise in the Law was fulfilled because the Israelites made a conscious effort to remember the Laws and apply them to their lives. Their faithfulness to God s words empowered the Spiritual forces of the unseen heavenly kingdom and the Spirits of God ran to protect every soldier from harm while enabling them to defeat every person who tried to come up against them. Hebrews 1: 14, What are the angels, then? They are spirits who serve God and are sent by him to help those who are to receive salvation. Conquering the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Importance Of A Parliamentary System For The Nation Of... The people of Bigmessia in order to move from the past, to shift forward for the present, and preserve a better future for our upcoming generations do declare and affirm this Constitution for the nation of Bigmessia. The nation of Bigmessia will work better with a parliamentary system due to two aspects: the international success of parliamentarism and the history of Bigmessia. The flexibility of a parliamentary system provides the best method for managing such a diverse nation (Linz, 61). There are too many issues and interests in Bigmessia in which having one strong executive can be very detrimental and problematic. The plethora of peoples and issues require a legislating body or leader to have careful deliberation and coalition building that only a parliamentary system can provide. The last thing Bigmessia needs is more polarization (more likely to come with presidentalism). In a country with ethnic, economic and religious divides, there needs to be a leader that can be a unifying symbol for the majority of Bigmessia. Thus, this neutral figure can provide moral ballast in a crisis or act as a moderator between the prime minister and his opponents (Linz, 61). The president will be elected by the entire country and requires a majority of 60% to win. If there is no majority, then the top two candidates will move into a run off election. This percentage ensures that the people have to vote for someone that most people admire or respect, since even if the Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Types Of Reproduction And Asexual Reproduction Introduction: We explored the reproductive system. It is important because without it all living things would become extinct. The two different types of reproduction are sexual and asexual reproduction. Types of asexual reproduction include binary fission, budding, and fragmentation. Budding is when another organism grows out of the parent cell, and separates once it s fully developed. Fragmentation is when an organism splits into more pieces which each form into their own organism. Binary fission is when the parent cell copies its genetic material and then splits into two. The advantages of asexual reproduction are that it produces a lot of offspring, takes little energy, and is speedy. The disadvantage is that the offspring are clones. Types of sexual reproduction include external and internal fertilization. External fertilization means that the eggs are fertilized outside of the two parent organisms, while internal fertilization happens inside of the two parent organisms. The advantages of sexual reproduction is that the offspring vary genetically. The disadvantages are that there are fewer offspring, it takes longer, it requires more energy, and a partner must be found. Gametogenesis is the production of gametes. There are two kinds of gametogenesis, oogenesis and spermatogenesis. Oogenesis happens in the ovaries, and makes eggs. It only happens during fetal development, and produces two polar bodies and one ovum. Spermatogenesis happens in the testes, and occurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking, climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing, hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food. However, a round trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. This is not to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi faceted. Collectivism in regard to helping is serving the community to benefit a certain group or collective of people. The group can range from 2 people to 2 billion. In such cultures there is little relating to the bargaining or depression stages of Kubler Ross theory, but acceptance certainly applies to both Hindus and Buddhists.
