    The tune of the song is based on a song named Putting on the Ritz by Irving Berlin. Istanbul (Not Constantinople) was originally performed by a Canadian group named The Four Lads. They released the song on August 12, 1953. There have been over 20 performers since that time that have covered the song. Some of the artists that have performed the song include: Bing Crosby with Ella Fitzgerald; Bette Midler; They Might Be Giants; Mad Dodo; and Reggies Red Hot Feetwarmers. The song is used in Dance Dance Revolution for the Xbox and the game Lips for the Xbox 360. The song was even used in a Simpsons episode.
