The Coasters [origin: 1955, Los Angeles, CA] are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group who had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo-wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 1960s.

THE COASTERS ~ once in the NY, they added Cornell Gunter Will "Dub" Jones, who replaced Hughes Nunn. In 1957, the Coasters topped the RB charts and the pop Top 10 with their double-sided single ~ "Searchin' and Young Blood." The next 2 yrs. saw a series of hit singles, 2 of which were "Yakety Yak," and "Charlie Brown," with the unforgettable line "Why's everybody always pickin' on me?" The British Invasion found them parting with Atlantic records.
