Found in Nepal, Bhutan, northeastern India, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Yunann China on tree trunks in sparse woods at elevations of 900 to 2300 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with 3/4 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] between each ovoid to obliquely ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, oblong to linear-oblong, obtuse, emarginate to obliquely emarginate, basally narrowing, strongly keeled below leaf that blooms in the spring and early summer on a slender, glabrous, red brown, longer than the leaf, 4.8 to 14.4" [12 to 36 cm] long, laxly 12 to many flowered inflorecence with a slightly zigzag rachis, prominent, scarious [at flowering], ovate, floral bracts
