The Voice legend never fails to take a classic song to new heights with his country verve.

By Jessica White

Blake Shelton is as much of a music fan as he is a powerhouse performer, and he loves any excuse for a country-fried cover. Take his incredible spin on Billy Joel's "My Life" and spoiler alert: You may never hear the 1978 classic the same way.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

As a Billy Joel fan, Shelton had his band start over to guarantee the iconic start of the number was perfect. He then delivered an electrifying version of the infectious tune, his rustic sound perfectly complimenting the powerful piano ballad. Shelton connected with the crowd with each relatable verse, fearlessly tackling each belting note with vigor. His and Joel's discography are a match made in heaven, and it stole the spotlight during this iconic set.

What to know about "My Life" by Billy Joel

With dozens of smash hits within his roster, "My Life" remains one of Joel's most beloved singles decades after its 1978 release. "My Life" is featured on Joel's album 52nd Street, and was a chart-topping hit, peaking at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100. And if you thought Shelton's 2018 performance was the first time he performed the song, you'd be incorrect. The lyrics to "My Life" by Billy Joel

Got a call from an old friend we used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed the shop, sold a house, bought a ticket to the west coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.

I don't need you to worry for me 'cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone

I never said you had to offer me a second chance
(I never said you had to)
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
(I never said)

I still belong (still belong)
Don't get me wrong (don't get me wrong)
You can speak your mind but not on my time

They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they'll tell you you can't sleep with somebody else
Oh, but sooner or later you sleep in your own space
Either way it's okay, you wake up with yourself

I don't need you to worry for me 'cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone

I never said you had to offer me a second chance
(I never said you had to)
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
(Gf circumstance)

I still belong (still belong)
Don't get me wrong (don't get me wrong)
You can speak your mind but not on my time

I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone
