Description

Claderia viridiflora is one of the most common peat swamp forest orchid species flowering in November to January. This orchid occurs in Sumatra, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and Sulawesi. In Peninsular Malaysia, it is widespread in wet shaded lowland forests. This species has pale yellow flowers with numerous green veins, trilobed lip with erect side lobes curving over the columns and bilobed mid-lobe. The rhizomes of this species are long, creeping, rooting into the forest floor and sometimes climbing up the tree trunk especially in the peat swamp forest. Its leaves are lanceolate, acuminate, plicate, and its stems enveloped by sheaths. This species was normally seen on tree trunks rather than on the ground, thus sometimes it is mistaken as an epiphytic plant.

Habits

  Part Habit

Creeping   —   Growing along the ground and producing roots at intervals along surface.

Terrestrial   —   An animal that lives on/near the ground or a plant that grows on/in/from land
