Technically; by definition; "Take it On The Run" by REO Speedwagon is not a rock ballad. Because of it's faster tempo, it is classified as Hard Rock genre. However, much more often than not, "Take It On The Run" shows up on Power Ballads playlists, and I'm bringing it in on my YouTube channel as a Classic Rock Power Ballad.
This song was Gary Richrath's answer to fellow band co-leader Kevin Cronin's "Keep on Loving You" on the same album (Hi Infidelity). The album was recorded September 1980, "Take It On The Run" reached #5 on the Billboard hot 100 chart, while "Keep On Loving You" simultaneously reached #1 early 1981.
"Take It On The Run" can fall into multiple Rock genres, but "Keep On Loving You" is without question a Power Ballad, and in fact one of the most popular Power Ballads of all time. I will most definitely build a video for "Keep On Loving You" sometime in the near future, but that one is going to require a little more creative thought to make it well.
