The late Andre Kim, a famous fashion designer who passed away in August, was belatedly found to have pledged a 1 billion won ($880,000) donation to Seoul National University Hospital and gave half of it before his death.
According to the hospital Tuesday, Andre Kim promised to give the college 1 billion won for the sake of medical development and also as a token of gratitude in 2008 when he underwent anticancer treatments there.
He donated 100 million won five times from April, 2008 to last year. On Monday, his son handed over 50 million won, part of Andre Kim’s pledge.
The hospital has used 500 million won to sponsor its residents’ overseas study, and is considering creating an Andre Kim Award.
