THE MERRY MACS
The popular close harmony ensemble poses for a black and white photo
Photograph unsigned, b/w, 8x10. The Merry Macs were a popular close harmony pop
ensemble from the 1920s to the 1960s. Their hit tunes included the novelty song "Mairzy
Doats", and "Sentimental Journey." The group's style influenced later groups, including the
Modernaires. Tenor JUDD McMICHAEL (1906-1989) and baritone TED McMICHAEL
(1908-2001) were founding members, along with their brother Joe, killed during World War
II. VERN ROWE was the last in a series of tenor-singing replacements for Joe McMichael.
MARJORIE GARLAND (1923-1991) replaced Mary Lou Cook after the group was finished
filming Ride 'Em Cowboy (1942). She eventually married Judd McMichael. Garland
continued on with the group until they decided to call it quits and retired from show business
in 1964. Lightly worn and creased throughout, especially at corners. Pencil note on verso.
Otherwise, fine condition.
