American drummer Sandy Nelson (b. 1938), a high school classmate of Jan
Berry and Dean Torrence ("Jan & Dean), was a successful session musician
before scoring his own rock hits, beginning with "Teen Beat", which went gold
in 1959. More hits followed, notably "Let There Be Drums" and "Drums Are My
Beat". Despite a motorcycle accident in 1963 which required amputation of
his left foot, Nelson released 1 or 2 albums a year into the 1970s (thirty in
all). His drums can be heard on several record sound tracks, and he appeared
himself in one beach movie (1965). In 2008, he and some musical friends
released a new album as Sandy Nelson and the Sin City Termites. Light surface
creases. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
