The singer and actor inscribes a card in 1953, the year he began
starring on the TV variety show, Coke Time (also called Coke Time with
Eddie Fisher), which would win a Golden Globe as Best TV Show five years
later.
Autograph Note signed: "Hi Jim -/Good Luck/Eddie
Fisher/[illegible]" on verso of 5x3 ruled index card. Name and brief
biography typed at upper margin. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso: "Eddie
Fischer (sic) Jan. 18, 1953/R.K.O. Palace". In 1953, Fisher began
hosting Coke Time, also known as Coke Time with Eddie Fisher
(1953-1957), which would win a Golden Globe for Best TV Show in 1958. He also
appeared on The Ford 50th Anniversary Show, an episode of This is Your
Life honoring Eddie Cantor, Fisher's mentor and the man responsible for
Fisher's early exposure on TV, and an episode of The Colgate Comedy
Hour. Although he is best
remembered today for his marriages to, and divorces from, Debbie Reynolds,
Elizabeth Taylor and Connie Stevens, Eddie Fisher (1928-2010) was a very
popular singer and TV personality in the 1950s. He had several hit records in
the early 1950s, including "Any Time", "Tell Me Why", "I'm Walking Behind
You" and "Oh! My Pa-pa". Fisher also hosted a series of musical variety shows
(1953-1959), winning a Golden Globe for Best TV Show (Coke
Time) in 1958 and being nominated for Emmy Awards for Best Male
Singer in 1955 and 1956, and he made one movie each with Reynolds (Bundle
of Joy, 1956) and Taylor (Butterfield 8, 1960). Slightly creased and
soiled. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
