Original Stars of The 5th Dimension bring their Pop Soul Classics to The Ridgefield Playhouse on April 16

Seven time Grammy Award winning couple, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., are the original stars and lead singers of the legendary group, The 5th Dimension, where they exploded with pop hits like: "Up, Up and Away," "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," "Worst That Could Happen," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "Sweet Blindness," "Wedding Bell Blues," and "One Less Bell to Answer." After leaving The 5th Dimension, Marilyn and Billy recorded "You Don't Have to be a Star (to Be in My Show)," - a chart topping number 1 record, which won them their 7th Grammy Award and a television series on CBS. On Saturday, April 16 at 8 p.m. McCoo and Davis will perform a musical tribute to the hits throughout their careers at The Ridgefield Playhouse. The show is presented by the Pepsi Rock Series powered by Xfinity. Make it a great night out of dinner and a show – visit Luna Rossa (90 Danbury Road, Ridgefield) for dinner the night of the show for a special 3-course pre-show menu when tickets are presented. Media sponsor for this show is 94.3fm WYBC.

They have been named by Billboard, "The First Couple of Pop and Soul." Additionally, Billy devoted his efforts to a successful gospel music career, and Marilyn performed in television's "Solid Gold." The couple enjoys tremendous success through the years as recording artists, performers and authors. Along with their multiple Grammy’s they have earned 15 gold and 3 platinum records. Married for more than 44 years, the pair co-authored, "Up, Up and Way," chronicling their relationship and musical careers while sharing secrets and advice for staying happy and committed. In addition to the success they’ve had together, Marilyn & Billy have also enjoyed solo pursuits. McCoo hosted the popular 1980’s television music series, SOLID GOLD, for 5 years and Davis had the chance to realize a lifelong dream to record a religious album with gospel great, the Rev. James Cleveland, entitled, “Let Me Have a Dream”. He also began to explore theatrical opportunities, starring in the hit musical, BLUES IN THE NIGHT, at the prestigious Old Globe Theatre and in the role of James “Thunder” Early in a regional production of DREAMGIRLS.

Over the years, the talents of McCoo & Davis have been requested for important events on a national and global level. They were invited to perform for the Pontiff during the 1987 U.S. visit of Pope John Paul II, and have participated in inaugural celebrations for presidents. Earlier this year, the music icons debuted their new musical fable “Up, Up & Away! a musical fable” in Las Vegas. It’s the tale of two aspiring stars who met, fell in love and endured a lifetime of challenges together.
