If you bought Shakira's 2010 album, The Sun Comes Out, you might remember the track Loca, featuring Dizzee Rascal, or the Spanish version with rapper El Cata. Well, now, fours years on, the singer is in hot water for copyright infringement on the song. Uh-oh!

In a trial this week in New York, Shakira's track was accused of copying another song by Dominican singer Ramon Arias Vazquez, which was released in the 90s.

BBC News explains that "Judge Hellerstein said that while the hit single had been based on an earlier version of a song recorded by Bello [El Cata], that itself had been copied from Arias Vasquez's original song."

The judge said in his ruling: "There is no dispute that Shakira's version of the song was based on Bello's version.

"Accordingly, I find that, since Bello had copied Arias, whoever wrote Shakira's version of the song also indirectly copied Arias."

Loca wasn't released as in the single in the UK, but the Spanish version sold five million copies worldwide.

The damages for the violation are yet to be settled, but will go to Mayimba Music, which owns the rights to Arias' music.

Eek!
