Perfect for beginner cactus growers, Parodia herteri forms a single globe-shaped stem with brown-red spines, which may eventually become more cylindrical with age, and may also branch to develop off-shoots. Deep pink flowers with a large central yellow eye appear in summer. It’s an attractive cactus for a sunny windowsill and is easy to grow.

Grow Parodia herteri in cactus compost, ideally in a container in a conservatory or on a windowsill. Water between March and September only, allow the compost to completely dry out in winter. As with all cacti growing in a temperate climate, Parodia herteri is ideally suited as a houseplant but may be moved on to a sunny patio in summer.
