Disocactus (Epiphyllum ) crenatum 'Beavertail' is a cultivar of Disocactus crenatus (Lindl.) M.Á.Cruz & S.Arias. It owes its name to the large leaves, which look like a large beaver tail. The leaves are thick and leathery and the plant is very different from the existing range. It is a wild large plant with leaves in all directions, making it a major eye-catcher in every room. The plant is very easy to care for and pet-friendly!
Genus name: Greek dis- 'twice' + Greek isos 'equal' + Cactus. Named “in allusion to the distinctive character of the genus”, i.e. the tepals and sepals being equal in number and “similar in form and colour” (Lindley).
