A Mexican species with dense white spines and beautiful pink and white flowers that is fairly easy to grow. It is a relatively fast-growing plant that will form clumps with age. Plant in a very porous, mostly mineral soil mix in a pot with good drainage. Water regularly from spring to autumn only after soil has dried. Feed with a quarter-strength, high potassium fertilizer in summer. It is reportedly cold-hardy to 20°F for short periods if soil is kept dry. Requires full sun or light shade and careful watering to keep plant compact. Tends to bronze in strong light, which encourages flowering and heavy spine production.

Germination of cactus seeds is about timing, temperature, quality of seeds, cleanliness, and establishing a technique for sowing. Some species have a higher germination rate, and/or a lower germination time than others. For that reason a specific success rate can't be guaranteed.
