Ancistrocactus brevihamatus SB376

Ancistrocactus brevihamatus SB376

Ancistrocactus brevihamatus SB376 is a newer species for me. We have had them in the garden for 20 years and they have taken severe cold of -22F. This was only while plants were smaller than a tennis ball, once these plants get large they are no longer cold hardy and die at very mild temperatures. This plant needs very fast draining soil like a sclerocactus but these are more water tolerant than that genus in general. These bloom first or second in the yard around late March while its still freezing at night.
