What were we all doing in 2003?

Singing along to Beyoncé's debut solo single, 'Crazy In Love' while practising the 'uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, oh-no-no' dance, of course!

As was Zendaya, apparently. Which is why the Malcolm & Marie actor wore the vintage Versace dress that Beyoncé had performed her hit single in at last night's BET awards on June 27.

For the ceremony, which was held in Los Angeles, hosted by Taraji P Henson and celebrated Black excellence and talent in music, film and TV, Zendaya arrived wearing a purple dress with a layer of green under the top and a purply-fuchsia bandeau strap across the ribcage.

The vintage dress was sourced by Zendaya's stylist Law Roach, who shared a video of Zendaya walking in her dress to (Beyoncé's now husband) Jay-Z's opening rap lyrics in 'Crazy In Love' with the caption: 'Get you a stylist with an ARCHIVE.'

The show-stopping dress was part of Versace's Spring Summer 2003 collection. Beyoncé then wore a shorter version of the dress for her BET performance of 'Crazy In Love' that year. The dress bore similarity to the orange and pink mini dress Beyoncé wore in the single's iconic music video during the final dance scene in front of giant fans.

One person who recognised the dress immediately was Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, who famously designed for and styled her daughter in the early days of her solo career and with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child. Commenting on a picture Zendaya shared of herself wearing the dress on Instagram, Knowles-Lawson confirmed it was her who severed inches off the dress to make it performance-appropriate.

'Love you In This vintage Versace dress !!! Beyonce wore one just like it on her first solo performance on the Bet Awards I cut it short 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️,' the mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles commented.

Zendaya was nominated for 'Best Actress' at the awards but ultimate lost out to Golden Globe-winner Andra Day who portrayed jazz singer Billie Holliday in The United States vs Billie Holliday.

Other big winners from the night include the late Chadwick Boseman who was posthumously awarded a Best Actor award and Naomi Osaka who won 'Sportswoman of the year'.
