It's been 15 years since Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule's "I'm Real" became one of the catchiest songs of our generation — but a recent article on Jezebel is shedding light on the fact that many people don't actually know the song's real lyrics.

As writer Jia Tolentino explains, she very recently learned that quite a few of her friends believe that J. Lo's first line in "I'm Real," a response to Ja Rule's "What's my motherfuckin' name?" is the counter-question "Are you Ellie?" But as Jia explains, J. Lo's actual first line in the song is the much more sensical "R-U-L-E." As in, a legitimate, correct response to the rapper's question.

"Guys," Jia writes. "To clear this up once and for all, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is a play on words, and J. Lo is saying 'R-U-L-E' because Ja Rule has literally just Cookie Monster-yelled at her, 'What's my motherfuckin' name?'"

This revelation has been mind-blowing for many, while those who have been in the know all along have expressed disbelief that anyone could have ever actually thought that J. Lo was saying, "Are you Ellie?" Either way, both sides can rest easy knowing that one of the greatest lyrical mysteries of the early '00s has finally been solved.
