วัดพระแก้ว เชียงราย

            วัดพระแก้ว ตั้งอยู่ที่ถนนไตรรัตน์ ใจกลางเมืองเชียงรายวัดนี้เองที่ได้ค้นพบ พระแก้วมรกต หรือพระพุทธมหามณีรัตนปฏิมากร ที่ประดิษฐานอยู่ณ วัดศรีรัตนศาสดาราม(วัดพระแก้ว) กรุงเทพฯ ในปัจจุบัน ตามประวัติเล่าว่า เมื่อปีพ.ศ. 1897 ในสมัย พระเจ้า สามฝั่งแกนเป็นเจ้าเมือง ครองเชียงใหม่นั้น ฟ้าได้ผ่า เจดีย์ร้างองค์หนึ่ง และได้พบพระพุทธรูปลงรักปิดทอง อยู่ภายในเจดีย์ ต่อมารักกะเทาะออก จึงได้พบว่าเป็นพระพุทธรูป สีเขียวที่สร้างด้วยหยก ซึ่งก็คือ พระแก้วมรกตนั่นเอง ปัจจุบันวัดพระแก้ว เชียงราย เป็นที่ประดิษฐาน พระหยก ซึ่งสร้างขึ้นใหม่ ในวาระที่สมเด็จพระศรีนครินทราบรมราชชนนี มีพระชนมายุครบ 90 พรรษา

พระเจดีย์
เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 1977 ได้เกิดฟ้าผ่าลงองค์พระเจดีย์พังทลายลงและได้พบพระแก้วมรกตซ่อนไว้ในพระเจดีย์หลังจากนั้นได้อัญเชิญพระแก้วมรกตไปประดิษฐานณ เมืองต่างๆ คือ ลำปาง เชียงใหม่ หลวงพระบาง เวียงจันทน์ กรุงธนบุรีและกรุงเทพมหานคร ตามลำดับ กรมศลปากรได้ประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนองค์พระเจดีย์ เป็นโบราณสถานสำคัญของชาติ เมื่อ พ.ศ.2478

พระอุโบสถ
พระวิหารทรงเชียงแสนมีลักษณะฐานเตี้ย เชิงหลังคาลาดต่ำ สร้างขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2433 ได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา วันที่ 6 เมษายน พ.ศ.2495 พระประทานในอุโบาถ เป็นพระพุทธรูปสำริดปางมารวิชัย เป็นพระพุทธรูปในสกุล ช่างศิปปาละที่ใหญ่ และสวยงามที่สุดในประเทศไทย
