Audiences at Broadway‘s Lunt-Fontanne Theater are transported into the world and pioneering career of Donna Summer thanks to the new musical Summer, starring three talented actresses (Storm Lever, Ariana DeBose and LaChanze) as the singer at different points in her life.
Following up two Tony nominations, the Tommy Mottola-produced show’s original cast recording will be released on Republic Records on July 20. Before the album — filled with both Summer hits and lesser known tracks — drops, Billboard has the exclusive first listen to one of Summer’s most beloved songs in the show, “Hot Stuff.”
The rock-tinged song from Summer’s Bad Girls album was originally produced by her close frequent collaborator Giorgio Moroder and was a departure for the disco queen, winning Summer a Grammy for best female rock vocal performance in 1980, the first year that honor was given out.
