Ever since I can remember I have have been a Ricky Nelson fan. My father would play his cassette tape on long drives to my aunts house. Something about his voice just made the lyrics sound perfect to me.When I saw that I could get my absolute favorite album in vinyl it was a no brainer, I had to have it.The quality and sound of the vinyl reminds me of being a little girl again in the backseat of our family wagon on road trips, happier times definitely come to mind.Thanks Amazon for making it possible to go back in time even if only for a short while.

The Very Best of Tommy Steele, 80 Tracks from The Decca Years on 3CDs, DAY3CD082

This is a new compilation by One Day Music and so my review relates to that issue and not any other.

All the tracks come from Tommy's Decca years and are public domain recordings up until 1962. The informative sleeve note is by regular writer Michael Heatley.

Tommy Steele OBE was born Thomas William Hicks, on 17 December 1936 ( my birthday but a few years later) and is an all round entertainer, widely regarded as Britain's very first teen idol and rock and roll star. He was also known by many as Britain's answer to Elvis Presley, he reached number one with "Singing the Blues" in 1957, and The Tommy Steele Story was the first album by a UK act to reach number one.

I have always liked Tommy Steele as a performer be it on record; stage or indeed on film. Interestingly, he is now fulfilling the role of Glenn Miller in the new stage touring musical August to November 2015.

The new compilation includes singles on Decca from the earliest with The Steel Men and then his solo singles.

This compilation also includes tracks from the following LPs...

The sound is excellent throughout and whilst the set does not include every single it does offer a massive amount of music from a giant of the era and one that is happily still treading the boards...
