This is a great sounding record. The songs are deep. Enjoying it!

This record is way more than just the first album released by Julian Lennon. For me, anyway. It's the first album I ever listened to and loved (other than those released by Paul McCartney/Wings) that had any remote connection to The Beatles, together or apart. For that reason, I've got more loyalty to Valotte alone than the entire Beatles catalogue and most of their solo output.

I was probably three years of age when I first listened to a Beatles album, Abby Road. At first, I didn't get it, or any of their earlier records. Because of my youthful ignorance, I knew who Paul Mccartney & Wings were (two of my favorite records were Pipes of Peace and Wings at the Speed of Sound), but I didn't know Paul had begun as a Quarryman-turned-Beatle. Then, I was four years old when I first heard the name of Julian Lennon. It was the two singles from Valotte: the title track and "Too Late for Goodbyes," which were getting regular radio airtime. I also remember Julian's appearance during a TV special in Disneyland, apparently miming "Too Late for Goodbyes." It really looked as if he were playing that harmonica part. When my family finally got a copy of the album, I considered it a treat whenever we listened to it. By this time, I had finally grown to embrace the Beatles and learn their names, but even to this day, John Lennon is more like "Julian Lennon's father" to me than just himself

For my taste, it's not tough to listen to most of the songs and appreciate the aptitude involved either in writing them or recording them. It may have been "too soon for hellos" as far as Julian's career was concerned, but that doesn't matter with regards to the album, itself. Julian has every bit of his father's gift as a writer, and he's also no slouchy keyboard player. [An interesting detail here is that, though it includes plenty of acoustic drums, piano and brass instruments, I don't hear a trace of acoustic guitar; all the guitars sound electric to me. That's an unprecedented feat.] The fact that his pop success was cut short, or even that he didn't cut half as many records as he should've after this one, is no fault of his own. Every new release from Julian Lennon is worth the wait, as far as I'm concerned. We should hear all of them, starting with this one.

I remember when I first heard Julian Lennon on the radio. I loved his voice and music. His lyrics were so profound and meaningful. Now fourteen years later I still love his voice and find his lyrics profound and meaningful.

Although I love the entire album, "Valotte", "Too Late for Goodbyes", "On The Phone" and "OK For You" are my favorite cuts from this CD.

I feel blessed to have known relatively little about his father before hearing Julian. I was able to hear his true talent.

Many times I have heard comparisons of the father and son. To say there are no similarities between John Lennon and Julian Lennon would be absolutely wrong. Both men have the same talent for capturing the human spirit in their lyrics and have a voice that is remarkable.

However, Julian should be judged on his own merit. He is a superior singer/songwriter in his own right. He was born to a legend but has more than proven that he is one himself.

I am very happy he has continued to release phenomenal albums. He is a blessing to the music industry and entertainment.

If you enjoy truly good music you will not regret getting anything by Julian Lennon.

The first time I heard a Julian Lennon song on the radio, it was part-way through, and I thought: Hummm, I thought I had heard ALL of JOHN Lennon's songs but I don't know this one. What the heck. By the end of the song I was thinking: This sounds like John Lennon but THE BEST his voice has ever sounded. LOL! I was so pleased to discover JULIAN LENNON!! A huge difference between father and son, in my opinion, is that John's post Sgt. Pepper music was often dark, but Julian's music is upbeat and just---Happy sounding. I have to say I love the music of Julian Lennon and (heresy Alert to John's fans) I truly think Julian has a better, more pleasant voice. You will love Valotte!

This is Julian's debut album. His voice is hauntingly beautiful. He sounds so much like his famous, much beloved dad. I recommend this album to all Beatle fans or anybody who likes an easy-listening, soft rock style of music. I believe you will truly enjoy this purchase.

This album of course was Julian's first recording and he proved that he was not just riding in on his famous father's coattails and using his fame to promote himself.Julian proved that he was a major talent in his own right and didn't need to rely on his famous father's reputation to get ahead in the music world. It's hard to imagine that this album is now almost 30 years old because the music still sounds timely and fresh. This recording was great when it first came out and it has withstood the test of time and is still an excellent album.

5.0 out of 5 stars In MY opinion - an outstanding production and presentation.

Pardon thge application of the first name but Julian (Lennon) and the production team have been - in MY opinion and I stress this - very sensitive to the fact that (Julian) obviously has a vocal presentation/delivery so reminiscent to that of his father (I don't wish to attract alternative comment on my interpretation) - an incredible talent and I wish we had both more access and visibility to it.

I might qualify to whoever may feel inclined to take me to task on my opinion/review by at least acknowledging the fact that a) I am of his Father's generation (and from Liverpoo,l but b) by some association aware of George Harrison's total regard of the inherant talent .....

I was looking for his first album and also purchased his last album he has recorded and feel he has found his own now. I prefer his new album over his first so this shows he has improved year after year.
