Description:

Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson & Others Chattanooga Concert Poster, 1959
One would be hard-pressed to find a poster with a more vibrant color combination than this beauty from '59! Add future Rock n Roll Hall of Famers Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Hank Ballard & The Midnighters to the mix and you've got a world-class poster! The incomparable Jackie Wilson, former Dominoes lead singer, went solo in '57 and never looked backed as he racked up nearly a dozen Top 40 hits through 1959, including "Lonely Teardrops", which spent 7 weeks at #1 on the R&B singles chart just a few months before this Chattanooga concert appearance. Sam Cooke had his share of chart success after leaving the gospel field as lead singer of the Soul Stirrers in late '56. "You Send Me" (#1 for 6 weeks in '57) was the first of nearly a dozen Top 40 entries for Cooke through '59 with his latest, "Everybody Like To Cha Cha Cha", highlighted on this dazzling poster. Since '54, Hank Ballard had released a barrage of singles laced with risqué, double-entendre lyrics such as "Work With Me Annie", "Annie Had A Baby" and "Sexy Ways". It was in '59, however, that he wrote and recorded "The Twist"; a single that became a respectable R&B hit for Ballard & The Midnighters. Chubby Checker's nearly note-for-note cover a year later became a multi-million seller that launched a worldwide dance craze. Look closely and you'll see another future Rock n Roll Hall of Fame group, The Pips with Gladys Knight, at the beginning of their career. Produced by Globe Posters of Baltimore, this 22" x 35" cardboard stunner exhibits creased corners and some light age toning along the borders.
