Kelly Clarkson Says She’s Not Returning to The Voice: ‘That Was Me Saying Bye’
Kelly Clarkson has taken her last red-chaired swivel.
Following the singer-turned-daytime TV host’s recent move from Los Angeles to New York City, Clarkson says she has said goodbye to NBC’s singing competition series The Voice.
“I’ve learned a lot about what I’m capable of handling, and also what you should not handle,” she told USA Today. “That was me saying ‘bye’ to The Voice and having this big move. I love that family, but I was like, ‘I’m struggling. I can’t smile anymore. I don’t feel like smiling.'”
The American Idol winner said her cross-country move was “very needed,” and that she’s learned over the years to not spread herself so thin. Her daytime show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, now tapes at New York City’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where she kicked off its fifth season Monday, Oct. 16.
Clarkson started with The Voice in Season 2 when she served as an advisor to Blake Shelton, returning in Season 13 to be an advisor to all four coaches. In Season 14, she officially claimed her own red chair and stayed put all the way through Season 21. She took one season off before returning to Season 23, which aired earlier this year.
The Voice Season 24 is currently airing on NBC with Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Reba McEntire. McEntire and Legend are already scheduled to return for Season 25 (airing some time next year), which will also star Chance the Rapper and first-timers Dan + Shay.

It was fairly obvious when she moved the show to NY. I knew she wouldn’t want to do the cross country thing.
I loved Kelly Clarkson on The Voice but a person has to do what’s best for themselves and their family so I’m very glad that she seems much happier in NYC.
Too bad. She was one of the better coaches. Niall and John L have already proven themselves. We’ll see about Reba and Gwen. I’m not sure about next season, a little dubious.
The entire genre of TV singing competitions probably wouldn’t be so big today if Kelly Clarkson hadn’t won the first season of “American Idol” (and then broken off from the producers to write and record her own style of music). It opened up the possibility that these shows could discover huge stars, even if that doesn’t actually happen very often.
American Idol puts The Voice completely in the shade when it comes to launching careers.
Have there even been significant successes from the winners of this show?
Serious question, I literally do not know. I don’t follow this show to any great degree other than knowing it exists.
Thereve been a few. Jordan Smith has probably been the biggest success amongst winners.
Morgan Wallen (who placed fifth or sixth) was the biggest winner overall.
I adore Kelly. She’s so talented, warm and open.
show needs to continue to bring in new blood
I was wondering if that would be the case, especially with her moving her show across the country. She seems happier, so good for her. The Voice won’t be the same without her and I probably won’t watch again (only watched before when there was a coach I really loved since the show is more about the coaches than the contestants).
Kelly will be badly missed.
She was funny and smart and very empathetic to the contestants.

yes I will miss her. But she has to do what she has gotta do for herself and family. Never say never, though. Got to leave doors a tiny bit open.

Kelly Clarkson is my favorite coach of all time! She is a beautiful person inside and out. You can see how much she cares when helping each person she coached.
Glad she left. She talked way too much and over everyone else!
Yes she will be missed. If she’s not returning, I predict the show won’t continue long. Losing her, Blake and Adam, it’s hard to watch. This season with Reba, John, Gwen, and Niall has been the worst season in 23 seasons.
Blake and Kelly were great — Adam, not so much — but I’ve enjoyed this season as much as any previous year.

Only wanted to say that Kelly, John and Niall have been my very favorite coaches since I’ve been watching the show – from the very beginning and I’ll be very sorry that Kelly’s not returning! Love watching her when the contestants are performing! No matter the genre, she knows the lyrics to every song and sings along! That’s amazing to me and her sense of humor makes the show so much fun to watch! I’ll personally miss her so much. But, Niall is a pleasant addition and is very kind to everyone and also has a very quirky little sense of humor. That’s all, I guess.
I don’t watch the voice anymore. Kelly was great. She was a very delightful and beautiful person. I will miss her but she is still my American idol
I love Kelly Clarkson, and I loved her on The voice but I do understand her need not to spread herself too thin. She has young children and her daytime talk show. She’s gone through a lot in the last few years and has made some positive steps forward. I’m very proud of her. Yes I will miss her on The voice set the voice can go on with other wonderful musicians. I personally wish her all the best in the world.
