Oh you thought Mario wasn’t going to capitalize on the newfound praise of his outstanding vocal abilities following his highlighted Verzuz’s victory over R&B brethren Omarion last month? Think again. After outshining his Scream tourmate, and drawing over 5.1 million viewers and 6.9 million live comments across all platforms during the event, with the flawless performance of his classics “Just A Friend (2002), ”Crying Out For Me, “and, of course, “Let Me Love You,” Mario looks to keep our attention with the release of his anticipated new song “Main One.”
For the ladies, the Sprngbrk Extendo and Mike Crook-produced song see Mario materializing his “dream” woman with melodic harmonies about being fascinated by the array of options she possesses and needs to look no further than him for appreciation. He sings:
“Girl, you can be honest with me/ You don’t gotta be toxic with me. You don’t need no other options but me/ ‘Cause you might just be my main one.”
Later on in the song, he continues: “I love when you drop it down low/ But you’re still high maintenance.” And goes on, “It’s like God did your makeup.”
“Main One” is written by Alexander Edwards, Andre Proctor, Daystar Peterson, Floyd Bentley, Mario Barrett, Micheal Stevenson, Mike Crook, and Spencer Anderson.
Mario released the new track after the announcement of the soon-to-be arrival of his upcoming single, currently untitled, featuring Ty Dolla $ign (“Paranoid”). Last month, Mario shared an Instagram photo of Ty and him in the studio with the fire emoji-overdosed caption: “TY$ VOCALS IS IN!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mario is set to headline a homecoming concert at MGM National Harbor in Washington, D.C., on July 29 with R&B superstars Omarion and Pleasure P. The concert is presented by Femme It Forward, a women-led company Mario partnered with to launch his new Instagram series #MarioMondays which will allow the singer to connect with fans on a deeper level. Tickets are on-sale now via Ticketmaster.
