Oreocereus celsianus, also called the “old man of the mountains”, is native to the Andes mountains. The cactus is covered with white wool, especially near the apex, protecting them from intense sunlight and extreme temperatures present at high altitudes. Oreocereus celsianus grow 10 feet tall and produce large red flowers that are pollinated by hummingbirds.

Plant the seeds ¼” deep in a well draining potting soil. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking wet and keep between 70°F to 80°F for best results. Germination typically takes between 5 and 180 days. Even with optimal germination conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
