Stay tuned for an in-depth look at Band on the Run for its 50th anniversary here in the very, very near future.

But in the meantime, we couldn’t help but share the exciting news that the classic Wings album will be reissued in a special edition due out on February 2, 2024 – Groundhog Day. For this release, Band on the Run will be presented in two different forms: One in Dolby Atmos, and the other stripped of the orchestral parts, something Paul McCartney is calling “underdubbed.”

“This is Band on the Run in a way you’ve never heard before,” Macca says. “When you are making a song and putting on additional parts, like an extra guitar, that’s an overdub. Well, this version of the album is the opposite, underdubbed.”

The “Underdubbed” version is essentially the rough mixes cut by Geoff Emerick and his assistant Pete Swettenham at AIR Studios during the 1973 recording sessions for the album, presented in a different running order to parrot the original analog mix (and minus “Helen Wheels”).
