Bonnie Tyler Sings ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ For Total Eclipse Cruise

Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler will sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" on cruise ship the exact moment the moon covers the sun.

You had to see this coming in the frenzied run up to Monday’s total eclipse of the sun, and the title lyrics of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 hit may already be running through your head. If not, let’s plant them there right now: The exact moment the sun falls under the moon’s shadow, Tyler will tune her husky, distinctive voice and belt out “Total Eclipse of the Heart” as a special guest on a weeklong Total Eclipse Cruise offered by the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas line.

The cruise left Port Canaveral Sunday and is making its way toward the path of totality. Tyler was a “natural choice for this once-in-a-lifetime moment,” Royal Caribbean International CEO Mark Bayley told Time.

The eclipse will last about 2 minutes and 40 seconds, and Tyler’s trademark cinematic ballad lasts 5 minutes, 32 seconds. “It had to chopped a bit,” Tyler said of trims made to fit the song into the time the ship passes through darkness, but told Time it’s “going to be so exciting.”

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” was Tyler’s only No. 1 song, but sales shoot up during eclipses, as they did during a March 2016 total solar eclipse, according to Time. And the official video of the song has more than 305 million views on YouTube

Tyler will be backed by the DNCE band, best known for the 2015 hit “Cake By the Ocean.”

Once the eclipse is over, the cruise will continue to St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Bahamas.
