In addition to being one of the band's most successful singles, “Tush” may be the prototypical ZZ Top song.
The song pretty much sums up the entire ZZ Top approach–minimalist, gut-bucket boogie driving a simple but monster riff, with singer-guitarist Billy F. Gibbons slurring away party-nonsense lyrics.
ZZ Top has only had two singles chart higher than “Tush” (Number 20)–“Legs” and “Sleeping Bag,” both of which peaked at Number Eight.
ZZ Top's fourth album, Fandango!, brought the trio its first massive breakthrough. Previously, the band had built its following through years of near-constant touring.
Prior to the release of Fandango!, ZZ Top played to a crowd of 80,000 in Austin, Texas, while sharing the bill with Bad Company, Santana, and Joe Cocker.
