Abstract
Vanilla plant belongs to an ancient lineage of flowering plants. It is a very important plant because it is the source of organic vanillin, extracted from the beans, that is used as aroma and flavouring agent in food. The famous and major international companies use vanilla to enhance the flavour of their products i.e., Pepsi, Coca Cola, Smoothie king, Starbucks, Jones Soda company, Cadbury, etc. Moreover, it is also used in fragrances. Due to its high demand, vanilla is among the main exporting products and playing a critical role in economy of various countries. So, there is dire need to understand and implement the suitable condition to get maximum yield from vanilla. Hot humid tropical climates and abundant amount of organic material in soil are best for vanilla growth. Controlling weeds along with branches that are under 4 m from the ground is essential to get the high yield. Stem cuttings is the commonly used technique for vanilla propagation. Cuttings are usually made from highly productive and healthy plants, which are selected earlier and marked before its harvesting. In Asian regions, particularly in Pakistan, the best season is July and August when irrigation lands can be used more freely, except beyond the favourable temperatures. The flowering may be promoted by providing climatic or mechanical stress i.e., water stress, low temperature, etc. Vanilla crops are badly affected under poor management conditions and does not get high degree resistance against the stem rot and other diseases.
