Abstract
Pomatocalpa with 26 species is widely distributed from Himalaya to southern China (including Taiwan and Hainan), Peninsular India and Sri Lanka, and through Malesia to Australia and Fiji. Plants are found in mangrove swamps, coastal and dipterocarp forests from sea level to 750 m. Plants are rambling epiphytes with erect or pendent stems consisting of several nodes sheathed by leaf bases. Leaves are distichous, sessile, oblong, flat, retuse, coriaceous, and persistent. Inflorescence is lateral, racemose or paniculate with many flowers. Flowers are non-resupinate, fleshy with free sepals and petals. Lip is three-lobed and possesses a spur that takes the form of a pitcher (Fig. Pom 91.1).
