Nails this week – Barry M Glitter & E.L.F Mint Cream

Last week I gave my nails the week off and instead spent some time thinking about what I wanted to do with them next.  The last look was pretty but I wanted to start experimenting a little more. So when a parcel arrived at my home Friday with a label saying Barry M I got all excited as I had been planning on adding to my nail polish collection.

This is what was inside my padded jiffy bag:

Barry M Nail Paints and Eyeliner

Top: Barry M Intense Waterproof Eyeliner – Black

Left to right: Barry M Chameleon Colour Changing Nail Effects in Pink, Barry M All in One Nail Paint, Barry M Aqua Glitter Nail Paint and Barry M Chameleon Colour Changing Nail Effects in Lilac.

I love the colours and my eyes were drawn to the glitter, the jewel like colour won me over so yesterday (straight after I got in rendering me unable to make dinner…shame) I sat down and painted my nails.

Barry M Aqua Glitter Nail Paint

At first I tried one coat on its own which was pretty but was lacking a certain something so I grabbed my varnish bag of tricks (which is overflowing now) and set about finding a base-colour to layer the glitter onto.

My first choice was my Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream nail paint so I painted my index finger and waited for that to dry before painting another nail with my E.L.F Mint Cream and applying the Aqua Glitter nail paint on top. I then promptly shoved both nails under my bf’s nose for his opinion on which to go for.

“Umm, nice”

“So which colour do you think?”

“Umm…the blue?”

As always very helpful 😉

So I ended up choosing the Mint Cream as a base colour with the Aqua Glitter as the accent all topped off with the Barry M Basecoat, Topcoat and Hardener All in One.

My trio of nail colours

I ended up leaving my index finger with the pink base colour to give some contrast as I quite like the difference.

Mint Cream and Aqua Glitter Nails

The Aqua Glitter goes on easily and I found the best way to get lots of the larger glittery bits was to almost pat the brush onto my nails and kind of wriggle it around. As with all glitter polishes it leaves your nails feeling textured so I added two coats of the Barry M topcoat to make sure that it didn’t chip easily.

I was already wearing my Rimmel Try Harder basecoat so I didn’t add another one but I really recommend always adding one to prevent your nails from getting stained. It also helps when you come to remove the colour as it doesn’t have a chance to sink into your nails.

My finished nails

Today I used my newly glittered nails as an accent to an outfit containing a lot of green with teal coloured tights, a khaki jumper and denim skirt.

When it’s time to part ways with this colour I’ll be trying out the Chameleon Colour Changing Nail Effects but I’m not sure which one to try first although I think it might be the lilac colour. Just need to decide what pattern I want to create.
