John Lewis Christmas song lyrics: How ‘All the Small Things’ became a hit for blink-182 and who Mike Geier is

Singer 'Big' Mike Geier covers the punk-pop band's megahit for this year's JL festive ad

John Lewis is known for its nostalgic Christmas ads, overlayed with wistful covers of smash-hit songs – and this year is no different.

The annual ad has returned, and this time it features a cover of blink-182’s famous single All the Small Things by American singer “Big” Mike Geier.

The song was the eighth track on blink-182’s band’s third album Enema of the State (1999) and quickly charted worldwide, going on to become the band’s most successful single to date.

‘All the Small Things’ lyrics

It’s reported that the All the Small Things lyrics were written as vocalist Tom DeLonge’s ode to his then-girlfriend. The lyrics go:

“All the small things
True care, truth brings
I’ll take one lift
Your ride, best trip

Always, I know
You’ll be at my show
Watching, waiting
Commiserating

Say it ain’t so
I will not go
Turn the lights off
Carry me home

Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares

Just say it ain’t so
I will not go
Turn the lights off
Carry me home

Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

Just say it ain’t so
I will not go
Turn the lights off
Carry me home

Keep your head still
I’ll be your thrill
The night will go on
My little windmill

Say it ain’t so
I will not go
Turn the lights off
Carry me home

Keep your head still
I’ll be your thrill
The night will go on
The night will go on
My little windmill”
