About “All Is Yellow”

All Is Yellow serves as the first compilation studio album from Cole Bennett and Lyrical Lemonade, released on January 26, 2024.

The album was first hinted at on February 26, 2022, when Cole Bennett took to Twitter hinting at the possibility of a Lyrical Lemonade album existing, saying:

the lyrical lemonade album.. who you want to hear on it? it will be about bringing worlds and collaborations together that you’d never expect. 🌐

On March 21, 2022, during an interview with Our Generation Music, Cole Bennett talked more about the album, explaining that it had been in the talks for a while, however, Cole went against the idea due to him having a problem with major-labels and due to timing. Cole also described the album as having a theme and described it as “his first movie.”

On September 12, 2022, Cole Bennett posted on his Instagram story about starting to work on the album officially. He shares how he will share a lot of time and energy and the experience will be “otherworldly.” The next day, Cole Bennet took to Twitter announcing that the first song off the album was completed.

After keeping quiet on any updates for the album, on January 3, 2023, Cole Bennet took to Instagram teasing fans if they are ready for the album, hinting a 2023 release.

On April 8, 2023, in a behind-the-scenes video uploaded in the Lyrical Lemonade 2 YouTube channel, Cole revealed that the album would have 16 songs in total and intends to release a video for each of the songs. Cole also revealed that one of the songs off the album features Chief Keef, Lil Yachty, and LUCKI:

Been working on the Lyrical Lemonade album nonstop. It’s insane. I’m trying to do a video for every song on the album. Sixteen songs. But this song I got, that Yachty’s about to hop on, Sosa, Yachty, and LUCKI.

Then on April 24, 2023, Cole took to Twitter briefly speaking about the album, stating that he would be treating the album like it’s “his first movie.”

On October 10, 2023, Cole Bennet would clarify on Twitter of the album’s name to fans, debunking that it was going to be named The Lyrical Lemonade Album and would reveal the real title soon:

the name of the lyrical lemonade album isn’t the lyrical lemonade album btw

The album title would later be revealed to be ALL IS YELLOW in the description of a YouTube playlist containing all the album’s singles, that can be found on the official Lyrical Lemonade YouTube page.

“Hello There,” the Lil Tracy, Corbin, and Black Kray-accompanied song was then released as the album’s third single, released on October 20, 2023.

On December 6, 2023, Cole Bennett announced on social media that he created an account called allisyellow for album updates. On the account, Cole Bennett stated that he would be treating the newly launched page as a “finsta” account, along with serving as the official album rollout page, where he would provide updates for the album:

I will be using this page as a finsta + album rollout page for the next 2 months. I’ve decided that I’m going to dedicate any spare time to chatting with you all as much as possible on here. let’s get funky. ILY – cole

Through a series of Instagram stories, Cole Bennett confirmed a wide variety of features, such as BabyTron, JID, G Herbo, Denzel Curry, and a variety of female artists, alongside revealing that there would be a second part to “Doomsday” on the album.

All is Yellow’s official cover art and partial tracklist would then be revealed on social media on December 8, 2023. That same day, Cole would update fans through an Instagram DM that the album would feature a wide variety of genres.

On December 13, 2023, it was revealed that Jason Lewis, a fitness trainer, would serve as the world’s first “album trainer,” in which he had a huge involvement on the project. When asked on Instagram what an album trainer was, Cole responded simply stating:

Exercise and wellness.

After much anticipated waiting, on December 22, 2023, Cole revealed on social media the album’s official release date.

“Fallout,” the Lil Yachty, Joey Bada$$, and Gus Dapperton-accompanied track was released on January 12, 2024, serving as the album’s fifth and final single.

“All Is Yellow” Q&A

  • Translations

  • Is there an animated album cover?

Yes, Apple Music features an animated cover for this release.

  • How did this album perform on the charts?

All Is Yellow debuted at #43 on the Billboard 200 on the week of February 10, 2024.

  • How many times have the yellow curtain appear in Cole's recent videos?

Ever since the announcement of the yellow curtain in an Instagram story on May 23, Cole has moved forward into using the yellow curtain for the album’s rollout. Prior to the album’s release, twelve videos so far has used the yellow curtain. This will be updated as time goes on:

“Special” with Latto, Aminé, and Swae Lee, “With The Fish” with $NOT and 6 Dogs, “Hummingbird” with UMI, SahBabii, and Teezo Touchdown, and the unreleased Big Sean track have all reportedly got their own music video but all have not been released to the public as of May 14, 2024.

All of the music videos also consist of theme of every artist wearing suits, which was explained by Cole during an interview with Kids Take Over.

On July 4, 2023, Cole spoke in a now-deleted Instagram story about the yellow curtain’s usage for the album, stating:

    & remember –

if you see this yellow curtain, that means it’s LL album related. if you don’t see this curtain, then it’s not LL album related.

I’ve shot a handful of videos these last few months that aren’t from the album, but they will be releasing in the midst of album related stuff…

now you know how to differentiate the two, all of which are special to me tho. hope this isn’t too confusing.

    LL ALBUM = YELLOW CURTAIN

    💿

In an interview with Complex, Cole explained the story behind the curtain for the album’s rollout:

The curtain idea came when I decided I wanted to do a video for every song off the album and create this consistent theme. I didn’t want to do a ton of videos that were random, and I wanted to have this consistent theme with a thread that tied it all together. So I was like, what if I built a standing set somewhere, which I could bring all these artists to and shoot these separate videos? Each time we would build it a little bit differently or change the lighting or whatever it may be. But then I was like, I might not be able to get everyone to this one location. I might need to go to Chief Keef’s house. I might need to go to London to shoot this Dave video. And that’s exactly what I had to do. I had to go to Chief Keef’s house, and I had to go to London to shoot Dave.

So I was like, how do I have a traveling set that I can easily bring anywhere? I literally went to London and we threw the curtain in a suitcase. We could bring it to Chief Keef’s house. We could bring it to Yachty’s backyard. We could bring it everywhere. It’s something that the artist can interact with, and it’s a symbol that’s open for interpretation. As my career goes on, I want that latex curtain—whatever color it may be—to be a representation of whatever project I’m working on in that moment, whether that be a feature film or a book I’m writing or whatever. That curtain can take on many lives in different colors. It’s exciting.

  • What was Cole Bennett's vision for this album?

You know, obviously like the Lyrical Lemonade album has always been in discussion for you know, since things really popped off. It was always like it would be really cool if there was a Lyrical Lemonade album, you know. That was just built out with a lot of like, you know, it’s a compilation album with a lot of the artists that we work with and just creating different vibes and bringing different worlds together, but I never wanted to do it, because… man, man I really hated labels really really bad for a long time. Just because it just rubbed me the wrong way. Now, I’m learning to just appreciate it more. I think I just matured, you know what I mean? Because I was so DIY, like anti-industry and I just never wanted to do it, the timing was wrong. But I think its because it was when all the labels wanted to do these joint ventures and have Lyrical Lemonade to be a sub label and I never wanted to do that. I didn’t know what I was doing and I never go into anything if I’m not fully knowledge on the situation. I’m not a numbers guy either. I don’t wanna be tied into contracts with anyone. I do this because I love it. This is my passion. So, to see people operate solely off just finances and things of that nature, not to get into it too much, I feel like I was getting pulled in by some shit that I didn’t want. The album being mentioned right around that time, after all of these labels trying to do all these things, I was like all of that type of stuff I was iffy about it and I just knew that the time wasn’t right, you know? I’m big on timing with everything, if I feel even the tiniest gut feeling in the opposite direction, I follow it. Recently, because now I’m ready to take things to the next level, I’m ready to start working on movies and start building Lyrical Lemonade into different worlds. I got some crazy ideas. My imagination, my drive is in a better spot than it’s ever been. This is a unturned stone, like this is something that had to be done. It’s a Lyrical Lemonade album and I know that now with my experience and a lot of the relationships I’ve built, I think I could really do something cool. Bring people together and just make different sounds that maybe wouldn’t get made otherwise and getting more involved with records and that executive producer role, in terms of helping, construct, and layer songs. It’s exciting for me. I want to be in the studio, bringing people together and just building records, so I think this would be really cool.

  • What has Cole Bennett said about the album?

the lyrical lemonade album is me piercing together songs that I would want to hear. not songs that you would expect to hear on an LL album. it’s not for you to like, but it’s for me to love. I’m feeling selfish these days.

I think you will love it too though. 😙

  • What was Cole Bennet's favorite thing about making the album?

my favorite thing is that we went through with it and gave it our all. I’ll remember this moment in time for the rest of my life.

  • What's the meaning behind the album's title?

I looked around one day and I was like, “Wow, everything around me is yellow. All is yellow.” And it also means “all is well.” Everything’s OK. The short film whyrush? builds into the album, and I think people are gonna realize that more and more as time goes on. The green latex curtain then turns yellow, and at the very end, it has the Eminem intro vocals on “Doomsday,” which is the first song single off the album, in reverse. The green turns yellow, and with age and wisdom, green grows into yellow. So it’s just this big transition moment, and there’s actually a transition that happens after the album as well.

  • What else has Cole Bennet said about the album?

I’ve been talking about doing a Lyrical Lemonade album for years now, and I just never felt ready for it. But now is the best time to do it because I’ve done music videos for so long, I’ve built so many beautiful relationships, and I really understand my taste more than ever.

I think I keep thinking back to… What if I did a Lyrical Lemonade album in 2017 or 2018? What would it have looked like? I just don’t think it would have aged as well with my taste, and I don’t know if it would be something I’m fully proud of. But now I understand what I want it to be sonically, how I want things to flow, and what I want a story to look like. It’s a compilation album, but all of the songs have been built from scratch and there’s a consistent theme. It’s world-building. I don’t know if I would have been able to create that in 2018 or 2019. Subconsciously, I think I realized that I needed to grow more as an artist before I stepped into something like that.

With this album… Being a director, doing an album, building all these songs from scratch, putting together this world, and bringing all these different artists together—there’s 35 artists on the album—it was only right that I did a music video for every single song. And to be quite honest, I don’t know if I would have been able to do that back then—at least not to the level I’m doing it now, with the theme of putting everyone in a similar wardrobe and just organizing it the way I can now.

  • What has Cole Bennett said about the release of the album?

All is Yellow, the album, out now. I don’t even know where to start. This has been by far the most ambitious project I’ve ever taken on in my entire career. If I could go back I wouldn’t do anything different.. well maybe i’d do a couple things different lol but maaaaaan these memories will last a lifetime. Having all of my favorite artists and friends come together for this was one of the best feelings I’ve ever felt. I learned so much through this process. I had days where I felt like I could take on the world and I had days where I felt like the world was about to end. I now know that truly nothing is impossible. Thankful for all of the sleepless nights in the studios with @daniyel , @marvyayy & @carltonmcdowell1 and all of the never-ending days on set with the best film crew in the world. By now I’m positive that my team and I know more about yellow ties and yellow latex curtains than anyone else on the planet. That’s all I got for now.. this story will continue to tell itself. Officially the first music video director to ever put together an album. Including a music video for every song as well. This album took an ARMY of people. 💛💿✨ cheers to the future and always learning to be more intentional. love you all so much. I can’t believe this.

  • Which features were cut from the album?

All Is Yellow’s Special Thanks list

As the album’s rollout kept revealing throughout 2023 and January 2024, Cole revealed to his fans through his alternative Instagram page that some rappers who had previously collaborated with him were cut from the album.

From what we can speculate from the Special Thanks list, posted on the day of the album’s release, Cole gathered a bunch of artists for the album, a lot listed were cut for unknown reasons. Below are some of the reasons why these artists were cut from the project:

  • Who produced the album alongside Cole?

Cole Bennett created a team of producers to help with his vision of All is Yellow.

    • Daniyel, the Portland-raised artist and producer had a major role in this album. Him and Cole would first meet when his debut single “LOST ONES” would receive a Lyrical Lemonade video.
    • Carlton McDowell, best known for his guitar skills (most notably on DJ Scheme’s “Buck 50”), grew up alongside the late Juice WRLD in Chicago. McDowell is the one playing the main guitar in the second single, “Guitar In My Room,” and from there, listeners like Cole knew he was in it for the long run.
    • marvy ayy, raised in New York, not only serving as a producer, but the person who mixed and mastered this album in it’s entirety (other than 6 Dogs‘ verse on “With The Fish”). Marvy is known for his work primarily with $NOT. Being the guy in the shadows, Cole knew Marvy was his secret weapon.
