Let Me Show You (Around My Heart) Lyrics

[Verse 1]
My heart is an open house
Warm as can be
All that it needs
Is company
Please let me show you
Let me show you around my heart
(Around my heart)

[Verse 2]
My heart is a fireplace
Burning away
Flaming with love
Both night and day
Please let me show you
Let me show you around my heart
(Around my heart)

[Chorus]
There's room for your sadness
Room for your gladness
I'll furnish everything you need
So darling, I plead

[Verse 3]
Come into my waiting arms
Trust in me, dear
Give me a chance
To prove that I care
Please let me show you
Let me show you around my heart
(Around my heart)
[Chorus]
Ah, there's room for your sadness
Room for your gladness
I'll furnish everything you need
So darling, I plead

[Verse 3]
Come into my waiting arms
Trust in me, dear
Give me a chance
To prove that I care
Please let me show you
Let me show you around my heart
(Let me show you around my heart)

Genius Answer

In David Ritz’s biography Divided Soul, Marvin Gaye credits this song with his understanding of language.

[The Turbans] had this one song, ‘Please Let Me Show You Around My Heart,’ with lyrics comparing an empty house to an open heart. That’s when I understood language. It wasn’t anything they tried to teach me in high school. Language was true feelings, coming from kids like us who really believed that one wonderful girl would make us happy for the rest of our lives.
