“Lovebug” sees the Jonas Brothers daydreaming about a new romance after losing hope for love. They revealed in their 2019 documentary, Chasing Happiness, that this song was made after Nick fell for Miley Cyrus while taping an episode of her show Hannah Montana.

Although it’s heralded as one of JB’s greatest hits, the song wasn’t as much of a commercial smash as one would expect — it peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, as of February 2015, the song sold over 850,000 copies.

What did Jonas Brothers say about "Lovebug"?

The boys spoke to MTV about the song, with Nick saying:

We wrote it while on the Christmas break of the Hannah Montana tour [we played on]. So we were in the hotel room and sat down that night and wrote it in about 15 or 20 minutes. […] Really, just falling in love with somebody, and [how] if they break your heart — or however it ends — you think, ‘That’s it forever,’ until the lovebug gets you [again].

Joe added:

It can mean anything, but for us, it’s throwing any past inhibitions to the wind.

Other than love, what inspired the song?

Nick told MTV in October 2008:

The vision for the song actually came from some different inspiration, but Juno was one of our favorite movies at the time, and the soundtrack is always kind of odd, so we decided to put those elements in the song, and it came very nicely. I think there are a lot of things we draw from [when it comes to songwriting], but that song in particular is a Beatles influence.
