Goody, Goody Lyrics

[Chorus 1]
So you met someone who set you back on your heels
Goody, goody
You met someone and now you know how it feels
Goody, goody
You gave him your heart too
Just as I gave mine to you
And he broke it in little pieces
Now how do you do?

[Chorus 2]
You lie awake just singing the blues all night
Goody, goody
And you think that loves a barrel of dynamite
Hooray and hallelujah
You had it coming to ya
Goody, goody for him, goody, goody for me
I hope you're satisfied, you rascal, you!

[Chorus 1]
So you met someone who set you back on your heels
Goody, goody
You met someone and now you know how it feels
Goody, goody
You gave him your heart too
Just as I gave mine to you
And he broke it in little pieces
Now how do you do?
[Chorus 2]
You lie awake just singing the blues all night
Goody, goody
And you think that loves a barrel of dynamite
Hooray and hallelujah
You had it coming to ya
Goody, goody for him, goody, goody, goody for me
Your love has been denied
You've been taken for a ride
And I hope you're satisfied, you rascal, you!

Genius Annotation

Frankie Lymon performed this song live on television on several occasions, including twice in 1957 on The Ed Sullivan Show. It was also a hit with his recording in the United States, reaching #20 on the Pop charts that year, as well as #24 in the UK.

It was released as a recording with his group The Teenagers, but was, in fact, a solo recording. This is most likely due to Frankie having much success with the group that year, with other hits like “Why do Fools Fall In Love” and “I’m not a Juvenile Delinquent”. Lymon left the group around the time of recording the song, thus leading to the association of the group with Goody Goody.
