Written by Antonina Armato and Giuseppe Cantarelli, Antonina wrote the song about the time her boyfriend proposed to her, but she wasn’t ready to get married, so they broke up.

The song peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #14 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart in 1988. The Spanish-language version “Yo Creo En Ti” peaked at #19 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

In 1998, Mariah Carey (who was a backup singer for Brenda) covered the song for her “#1’s” album. Her version peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum.

Brenda’s daughter, Gianna Isabella, sang this son on American Idol.
