This disc is getting two more tracks. :) I decided, since they're from around the same time as the "Farewell To The Crown" collab, the other two Chumbawamba/Oysterband tracks (released as Oysterband B-sides) deserved to be here, too.

I considered adding 'We Don't Go To God's House Anymore' from the "Uneasy Listening" comp, but it just doesn't sound like it fits, even though it's from (just after) this time period.

I haven't listened to the Foo Fighters in a while so I thought I'd check out the Greatest Hits set they put out. I didn't like it though, and Grohl's disdain for the idea probably didn't help. (Compare that to Jack White who did want to make a Greatest Hits album for the White Stripes and did a much better job.)

It's especially weird how Grohl writes in the liner notes "these 16 songs are what we're calling our 'Greatest Hits'...a collection of the songs that have defined our band's identity to most people over the years." Two of those 16 songs are actually the SAME song, and two more are brand-new, meaning they're not hits and no one has even heard them until now, much less "over the years."

I skipped the lone track from their live acoustic album (a song that was originally done for a B-side that's okay but never a favorite), and I included a couple of tracks from the next album Wasting Light (I don't have any favorites after that one so it was a good cutoff point). I ditched the new songs too. I wanted to fit it all on one single disc, and it came out to 19 tracks at rough 79 minutes. All classics, their best singles IMHO and most popular fan favorites, and all originals just to make it a proper, solid introduction as well. They do a lot of fun covers, but I'd rather collect them on a covers album.

    kevin5brown Analog or bust.

I do comps all the time, and I've been looking for one to post here. I have a really good recent Grateful Dead comp from instead of not buying one of their high priced recent complete sets of concerts, I'll dig that up sometime. :) But for now, one burned CDR of live Red Hot Chili Peppers:

    2011 Live EP - Wikipedia
    1. "Look Around" (recorded 11/19/11 - Birmingham, UK) 3:48
    2. "Dani California" (recorded 11/19/11 - Birmingham, UK) 5:10
    3. "Monarchy of Roses" (recorded 11/15/11 - Manchester, UK) 3:28
    4. "If You Have to Ask" (recorded 11/14/11 - Manchester, UK) 5:24
    5. "Give It Away" (recorded 12/11/11 - Milan, Italy) 10:02

I'm with You World Tour (EP) - Wikipedia
    1. "Breaking the Girl" (5/7/12 - Boston, MA) 5:20
    2. "Wet Sand" (4/10/12 - Duluth, GA) 5:13
    3. "Snow (Hey Oh)" (2/2/13 - Johannesburg, South Africa) 5:36
    4. "The Power of Equality" (7/5/12 - Milan, Italy) 4:03
    5. "Strip My Mind" (5/4/12 - Newark, NJ) 4:17

Live in Paris (EP) - Wikipedia 2015
    1. "Dark Necessities" 5:06
    2. "Give It Away" 4:55
    3. "By the Way" 3:55
    4. "We Turn Red" 3:23
    5. "Go Robot" 4:58

A nice 76 min disc. :righton: All killer, no filler, and only Give it Away overlaps, but two very different versions.

The first two were put out free by the band, and you can find them still for free without looking very hard. Tried as I might, I could only find the last one on Deezer, so I signed up for a free membership, and they still wouldn't play the entire songs. Scumbags. So I have a trial paid membership, and I'll cancel when the free part is up.

  17. I agree regarding the weird feel of the Foos greatest. I was really bummed it didn't contain my favorite track, "Next Year". It's the song that introduced me to them since it was the theme song for the tv show "Ed". I can leave out "The Pretender", even though it's a great tune. It's just that I've heard it a billion times. I'm thankful for it though, since it THE song that taught my son how to play guitar.
BTW, that White Stripes greatest is one I picked up on vinyl at Target. Love it.

A very good friend who has a fairly large music collection, surprisingly has no punk or new wave music at all. I made him a cd compilation of songs that I like, which I thought he might go for. This was a few weeks ago and so far he has not made a comment to me about it. Oh well.
