EW's editorial guidelines Published on September 22, 2023 11:39AM EDT Kelly Clarkson has tapped her 9-year-old daughter for a sweet collaboration for the deluxe edition of her latest album. River Rose makes an adorable spotlight appearance on "You Don't Make Me Cry," one of five bonus tracks included on the special version of Clarkson's Chemistry, which was released today. The poignant song opens with River Rose delivering a series of auto-tuned vocal riffs before the beat kicks into gear. At one point, Clarkson can be overheard encouraging her to keep going in the background. River Rose later returns to close out the track, declaring, "The end!" The lyrics for "You Don't Make Me Cry" recount Clarkson freeing herself from the emotional baggage of a bad relationship. (The singer split from Brandon Blackstock in 2020.) "You don't make me cry / And I cry at everything," she sings. "You don't make me feel and I feel more than most / Now that says something / Doesn't it?" The track also includes a nod to 2007's "Sober." In the original song, she sang, "Three months and I'm still sober / Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers / But I know it's never really over." Now, on "You Don't Make Me Cry," Clarkson sings, "So I'm picking you from my garden / Weeds aren't allowed in / Guess you missed that song." Kelly Clarkson. Weiss Eubanks/NBCUniversal via Getty Images River Rose joined Clarkson on stage at her Las Vegas residency last month to perform 2015's "Heartbeat Song" with her. "[River Rose has] been jamming to this song since she was a baby," Clarkson explained at the show before bringing her out. "She loves this song so much, so she was like, 'Can I sing this song?' She picked her dress, y'all. River Rose, come on out here!" The pop star's 7-year-old son, Remington, also made an appearance that night to throw a mini dance party with his mom as she sang his personal favorite, "Whole Lotta Woman." Clarkson described his selection as "the coolest song for a dude to pick," adding, "I was like, 'He's destined for greatness just for loving this song alone.'"
