Songs About Food

On a previous poll survey I had conducted on this site a couple months back, readers were asked what type of playlist they’d like to see next, and the most asked for was relating to food. So here you will find a comprehensive “food-inspired” collection of songs covering a vast array of music genres, styles and eras. Each of these selections feature various songs about or relating to food… as well as various other aspects of eating, drinking and dining, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Other key words are eat, candy, food, cafe, restaurant, drive-thru, etc. These key words must appear in the title to be included here.

I’m sure you will soon realize that a majority of these songs featuring food related terms don’t really have anything to do with food at all, but are a metaphor for other guilty pleasures of life, so to speak. So it’s no surprise how often food terminology comes up in song.

A more comprehensive drinking song list featuring songs about alcoholic drinks, liquor, bars, etc. can be found HERE. (I posted this list a few months back)

If you can think of any songs I omitted here, and I know there are lots more out there, please drop me a comment and let me know.

** PS – I refuse to be held liable for causing hunger pains or attack of the munchies after the viewing the following list and photo gallery. πŸ˜›

Special Mention:

The above list wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion ofΒ  “Weird Al” Yankovic’s….. “The Food Album”…..

#11)Β  Japanese ‘bonus track’ of “Eat It” … the karaoke version

Other “Weird Al” food songs not on the above album but should be are:

“Girls Just Want to Have Lunch”, from “Dare to Be Stupid“, Yankovic’s only previously released food-related song not to make the album.

“Waffle King” was also absent from the above release. Though the song was released later in 1993 on “Alapalooza“, it had already been included on the “Smells Like Nirvana” single the year before.

One More Interesting Note:

Another musical group that appears on the above list quite often is Cibo Matto. The band’s name, Cibo Matto is an Italian phrase that translates to “Crazy Food” and many of the tracks on their albums relate to food… if only in abstract form. The lyrics in their songs are primarily concerned with food, possibly used as a metaphor. Examples of some of their food songs include “Know Your Chicken,” “Apple”, “Birthday Cake,” Sugar Water,” “Artichoke,” “Beef Jerky,” and “White Pepper Ice Cream”.
