Notes for the Genus:
Rauhocereus
Etymology -Named after botanist Werner Rauh, a professor with a many specific contributions to the study of succulent plants.Rauhocereus is a genus with a single species which grows columnar as a shrub. It is found exclusively in Northern Peru in the wild where the genus Browningia is also found. Some have thought Rauhocereus should be included in that genus, but the majority feel it unique enough to warrant its own genus.
The stems are somewhat tuberculate, with a rather geometric appearance, which can be rather striking to the eye when pronounced. Flowers are nocturnal and white, floral tubes with scales and hairs.
Like so many of the columnar cactus species, Rauhocereus is not widely grown by hobbyists, but can usually be found at Botanical gardens that have significant cactus collections.
